PhotoFast Intros G-Monster V4 1.8-inch SSDs

PhotoFast announced three new solid state drives in the 1.8 inch form-factor. All three use IDE interfaces, and hence are ideal for consumer electronics such as PMPs, video cameras, etc. The new series these come under is the G-Monster V4. The drives offer capacities ranged between 32 and 256 GB (probably including 64 GB and 128 GB models along the way), and are characterized by the interface type: 40-pin ZIF, 44-pin IDE, and 50-pin IDE. All three feature MLC NAND flash chips, with 64 MB DRAM memory for the NAND flash controller. The controller offers a "Built-in Garbage Collection" feature that clears deleted data, relocating existing data onto its area. In this way, data fragmentation is reduced. The read-write speeds on offer are 128/90 MB/s, respectively.

Because they way data is handled on SSDs, fragmentation doesn't really occur, well not with this tech they have on it. Similar to the TRIM instruction set of Win 7. So it is worthy of being put on. Not bad read writes for SSDs using IDE, but I mean come on, IDE needs to be put to bed.

yes that's the point my main reason was that acceleration harms Harddrives thus my 30GB Ipod video was never used for sport activitys and i am always jealous on ipod nano people.

back in the day there where no netbooks thus ipod video was the way to go for video ....

does anyone know a good source for MLC SSD 1,8 Inch Zif that is cheap as i don't need speed more access time and powerconsumtion.

after reading the post above i would really like to replace to 120gb HDD in my zune with the 128gb SSD.I hate watching videos and have them shudder at random times and i do drop it alot.. too bad its only a week old or i would.
