Sapphire expanded its Radeon HD 5700 series with the Sapphire HD 5770 Vapor-X. This release comes around a month after the HD 5750 Vapor-X, and resembles it in having the same GPU cooler: a GPU contact block with a Vapor chamber acts as a large heatpipe, uniformly conveying heat to the heatsink above it, which is cooled by a fan. Unlike the HD 5750 Vapor-X which comes with a blue reference PCB, this one retains the black reference one, with the cooler being the only noticeable change.

The Radeon HD 5770 is based on the 40 nm Juniper GPU. It is DirectX 11 compliant, and has 800 stream processors, along with 1 GB of memory installed across a 128-bit GDDR5 interface. It also supports the ATI Eyefinity technology that allows users to scale a display head across three physical displays. Connectivity includes two DVI-D, and one each of HDMI and DisplayPort. Sapphire also gave it a modest factory overclock, with the core running at 860 MHz (vs 850 MHz reference), while the memory stays at 1200 MHz (4.8 GHz effective). It is priced around 145 EUR.

It's about time! I've been waiting for this variant forever! Still wish it actually used the exhaust vent for well.... exhausting hot air but the card will probably run so cool that it won't even produce that much case heat in the first place! :toast:

If your GPU is cool is because heat is being dissipated faster.

Your case if anything would be warmer :D

Not bad, still waiting on aftermarket PCB's before I get REALLY excited over hardware.

Unfortunately non-reference PCB nowadays means cost cutting and el cheapo VRMS :respect:
Back in the day the non-reference PCBs mean higher quality OC versions, but now the reference components are becoming the maximum.

My money is on Gigabyte Ultra Durable variants of the 5 series cards, they should be awesome.

I have a couple of 1gb 4850's that just rock, and a 1gb 9800GT that kicks ass too, I bet they could make a 5870 shorter too.

My 5770 with the stock 2nd revision cooler runs at 34C idle and around 60 in games. It's not like it needed a bigger scarier cooler in the first place. This thing will bring ice-cold temps and hopefully huge clocks.

Don't be fooled by the egg cooler, it is much crappier than it looks
This cooler has a vapor chamber for its base, and much larger and better done fins.
The egg has a thick rough base and narrow fins.

Not much ram OC then!

Unless you happy to have some pennies or actual heatsinks to stick to the ram

I am not running the ram as fast as I tested it, but it ran ATI tool for 15 minutes and no artifacts at 1335mhz. Coolers don't make much difference on ram. They don't on the 3870's either, I had Swiftech copper sinks on mine until they came loose, and when it came factory the pads weren't attached. I think it made 10mhz difference in oc.

But it can make a difference in terms of longevity of components as well : ]

Yeah, but I am not going to push mine to 1335. Oc on the ram made little difference in performance.

this cooler looks very similar to the one on the 4870 (a very good cooler) The fan blade is similar too (very quiet). its funny as its made out of steel (not normally what we think as a good material for a heatsink)
I bet his is gonna be a very popular card.

It's about time! I've been waiting for this variant forever! Still wish it actually used the exhaust vent for well.... exhausting hot air but the card will probably run so cool that it won't even produce that much case heat in the first place! :toast:

I have a pair of the 5770s with the original coolers and the small slots are very restrictive and the fans are loud. They dont vent much air outside at all, Lucky they dont run any where near as hot as the 4870s do.

I bet the Vapor X ones are much better/quieter

Does soddering pennies actually help heat dissipation in any way or is it something you do because you can stand the sight of your RAM not having a heatsink? :p

It does make a difference, just not a decent amount , I would use thermal tape rather then solder though.

How ever you could solder 2 or 3 pennies together then cut lines in them to increase the surface area :D then lap the bottom.

Extreme Penny heatsinks.

Fellas this is a nice card but the stock cooler handles these card very well and frankly the 5770 doesn't need better cooling because it's really not a hot running gpu. I'm not sure how your getting they are loud. If you turn them up yes but at default they are quiet and run well within the temp that ATI requires. As with the 5850 I owned better cooling doesn't seem to help over clocking it might extend the cards life but not your over clocking numbers. That hasn't been my experience with other cards in the past but it is with these new ati cards.
