ASUS has set a new standard in total motherboard protection with the launch of the ASUS Protect 3.0 Design based on Xtreme Design, which helps protect the earth, systems, and users. Equipped with intelligent anti-radiation shielding, the technology lowers the generation and transmission of harmful radiation by up to 50%-offering the lowest electromagnetic emissions from a motherboard in the industry. This lowers the adverse health impact to users and delivers more stable system operations. Additionally, active anti-surge protection helps enhance component and system longevity. Protect 3.0 also includes the ASUS EPU (Energy Processing Unit) chip to reduce system-wide power consumption by up to 80.23%* and to ensure a more environmentally sustainable operation.

Significant Elimination of Harmful Electromagnetic Rays with Low Radiation Design
On average, users are exposed to about eight hours of electromagnetic radiation daily from computer usage. Protect 3.0 effectively reduces this radiation exposure by up to 50%-achieving the lowest radiation emission levels in the industry. This technology is able to meet more stringent radiation limits by employing intelligent design features including the use of low-radiation components to minimize radiation generated. Additionally, a Low Radiation Circuit Design reduces the radiation produced by electrical components by intelligently positioning oppositely-charged electrical flows across each other to cancel out the fields generated. Finally, a Radiation Moat Design effectively eliminates radiation leakage to surrounding components by confining it to small region around an active area.

Enhanced Component and System Longevity with Anti-Surge Design
With its Anti-Surge Design, Protect 3.0 detects under- or overvoltage conditions in components and prevents electrical surges from spreading. Whenever surges occur especially during a thunderstorm or periods of unstable grid power delivery, Anti-Surge will immediately shut off the electrical supply and prevent potential component damage-thus enhancing total system longevity.

Superb Efficiency and Eco-friendly Operations with EPU Energy Saving Design
For enhanced efficiency and more earth-friendly operations, Protect 3.0 includes the ASUS EPU (Energy Processing Unit), an energy-saving chip that intelligently reduces power consumption by up to 80.23%. EPU automatically fine-tunes the power channeled to components such as the CPU in real time for superb efficiency. To further reduce energy consumption, EPU also automatically delivers the most appropriate power via intelligent acceleration and overclocking. Such enhanced efficiency results in less CO2 released to the atmosphere from lower power generation. In fact, 10 million EPU-enabled motherboards can help eliminate up to 207,430 tons of CO2**-equivalent to Australia's annual carbon emissions.

*Results may vary according to different system operations and configurations.
**A single EPU-enabled motherboard can save up to 33kw of electricity annually, reducing the release of CO2 into the atmosphere by 20.7kg. Source: http://carma.org (Carbon Monitoring for Action)
Specifications are subject to change.

What a load of crap...

I have an ASUS P5Q-Deluxe, and I'm always using EPU-6 Engine when I'm not playing games. That way everything is reduced 25%. (power consumption, CPU&RAM freqs, all voltages, etc). And yes, the PC is extremely silent, since EPU reduce the fan rotation to almost quiet mode.

BTW, I though Asus retired from mobo manufacturing....

How much radiation makes it past the typical steel ATX case anyways?

And isn't radiation dissipation directly related to the inverse fourth power distance too?

Just market the green effect, the real life radiation effect is BS...

Unfortunately, I only have a normal ASUS motherboard. We're only at the beginning of February and I've had to see my doctor for checkups due to radiation sickness twice this year :(

I guess ASUS engineers are fully aware of how negligible the EM coming from a motherboard is, but the marketing department would sure like to fleece those eco-mentalists out of their cash.

They need to make a radiation resistant mobo - then we move to Chernobyl. It will create a strong shield and we will live inside the NPP...ye right

As far as I know, radiation sickness is primarily caused by Gamma rays. Alpha rays only need a piece of paper, while beta rays only require a thin piece of metal to be completely stopped.

and EMI is neither of those .. seems like asus needed to post a press release but had no idea what's new and great about those products
what about the colored LEDs .. those are radiation too

They have, they made a subsidiary company that manufactures the motherboards, but ASUS still designs them, markets them, sells them.

It's Intel Speed Step too. So only with Intel's S.S. and no EPU-6 enable, I have a reduction from 3000MHz/1.2v to 2000Mhz/1.14v (multiplier goes to 6 from 9). However, if I enable EPU-6 with 25% more reduction I've got 1486MHz/0.9v (bus speed goes down to 247.6 MHz). And in this mode the QUAD CPU consumes the outstanding power of 6 ~ 11W!!! :pimp:

rightio, it lowers the FSB as well.

your 6-11W CPU means nothing with a 4870x2 using 150W+ at idle :p

Actually all three can be lethal depending on dosage and source location. In addition, UV radiation causes skin cancer and it's a type of "EM radiation".

That being said this is still 100% advertising gimmick. I'm almost certain that a fluorescent light is more dangerous than a motherboard.

Yes but none of those will appear in normal circumstances unless you live outside in the burning sun or you live in a radioactive area

Measure it at the wall, the Asus measuring program is
completely inaccurate.

It tried to tell me I was using next to nothing in power when sitting idle in desktop, except my pc's idle does involve work being done, such as Windows Sidebar and so on, so where does this magically power come from?

I messed with my ram Voltage from 1.8v to 2.2v
Guess how much more Watts I was using?
~1w
great....

Socket 775 sit around the 90W mark depending on your configuration. Whack on your GPU and Depending on how many HDD's you have you should be around 140W at idle.

However with that all said and done, I do like how Asus are going in the other direction with EPU's, trying to declock to get the lower temps and more life out of your hardware.
Makes a change from the constant lets bump the FSB by 3% no one will notice and our board will win all the benchmarks :D
