AMD's Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity6 Edition, a special variant of the Radeon HD 5870, is slated for release on the 11th of March, according to a recent report. The Eyefinity6 Edition makes use of the six TMDS signal lines of Radeon HD 5870 to drive six display-heads. On the connectivity front, there are six mini-DisplayPort connectors. Using the included dongles, the card can connect to six displays with full-HD resolution, which can then be merged using the ATI Eyefinity technology to form one or more Eyefinity display-heads. The GPU and memory use reference clock speeds of 850/1200 MHz (core/memory), while there is 2 GB of GDDR5 memory on board.

The other AMD product that AMD will be releasing a little sooner is the Radeon HD 5830, a performance-segment graphics card that aims at a sweet-spot price of somewhere between $150~$250, delivering performance in existing applications on par or better than the Radeon HD 4890, but with a lot more future-proofing, DirectX 11 compliance, Eyefinity support, and lower target energy draws. We expect the Radeon HD 5830 to have 1120 stream processors, and 1 GB of GDDR5 memory, and clock speeds of 800/1000 MHz (core/memory). The market release of Radeon HD 5830 and Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity6 are strategically timed to coincide with those of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 400 series graphics cards.

Well the 5770 fell a bit below the performance of the 1GB 4870 (the original statement was that they were aiming for that level of performance), I hope the 5830 surpasses the 4890 by a notable margin this time around.

The 5770 and the 4870 are virtually on the same performance level ;)
It is not like a few mhz on the 5770 can't fix that.

hardly - I have a 23" NEC EA231WMi that has displayport (no HDMi though :( ) & it cost me £300 & thats hardly breaking the bank - but obviously it is if your going to buy 3 or 4 of them at once...

If it is not a photoshop the would be a really long card.

Possibly a picture of the upcoming 5970?

Perhaps the "Eyefinity 6" 5970 is upcoming... I thought it looked like a modified 5970 as well.

No, there is no 5970 E6. That picture is really old.

Here's the PCB comparison between Eyefinity6 and normal HD 5870 cards. They're of the same length.

They're the same PCB. Same length. Only a few more components. To start with, there's a slightly beefier VRM to power the additional memory chips on the back of the card.

We expect the Radeon HD 5830 to have 1120 stream processors, and 1 GB of GDDR5 memory, and clock speeds of 800/1000 MHz (core/memory).

That is a shame. I was hoping it would have at least 1280 stream processors. I suppose being clocked higher than the HD 5850 will not make it too poor in performance, and if the HD 4830 was any indication, it will overclock like mad!

Hype

I don't get the "eyefinity" hype? I use an LG L40 hi def 1080P 42" monitor. Why ruin that or compare that experience with three 20"+ monitors with borders? You will always see the borders! I guess that I just don't see the appeal of three or six monitors.

you are running only on 1920x1080 but 3 20" would be 3x 1680x1050 or 5040x1050 which is superior resolution than yours (and if you had 3 30" at 2560x1600 is 7680x1600 and 6 30" is double that @ mind blowing res of 15360x1600 ... just mere 8 times more than yours)

P.S. mere screen size ≠ screen resolution (and for some screen res is more important)

My monitor is top notch. Although I only got the 120hrtz I am very pleased with it's performance... I am not saying that you couldn't put 3 or 6 monitors together and make it a better gaming experience. All that I am saying is that I am extremely OCD and the borders would be toooo much for me. Plus anyone that you showed the setup to would be like "looks awesome dude, sucks bout the black between the monitors". I believe that if you want to experience the surrounded effect of 3 or 6 monitors just sit closer to yours and save money. & your marriage lol!:D

Lol, no retort for that. If my girlfriend saw me gaming in front of three monitors I'm quite sure she would reconsider our relationship. Now if I can just get three monitors where two fold behind one, I could keep it under the radar!

Screen with no annoying breaks in it is better than constantly wondering what the bezels are blocking to me. Then again, I'll never be able to afford this kind of setup anyway.

So if the 5830 is going to be in the 150-250 range maybe a good drop in price for the 5770 is coming? :toast:

I agree. I'd rather have a 40" 1080P than 3 20 inchers. But I'd rather have 3 1080P 60"ers with thin bezels in Eyefinity with Bezel Management. Talk about smooth. You'd need a desk the size of a dining room table. :) (Along with Eyefinity)
