NVIDIA GeForce 196.75 WHQL Drivers Released

NVIDIA released version 196.75 of its GeForce driver suite. The drivers are WHQL signed. It adds support for new NVIDIA GPUs, notably the ION 2 GPU, apart from GeForce 300 series mobile GPUs, and the existing lineup of GeForce GPUs, 6-series and above. GeForce 196.75 WHQL also packs the updated 9.10.0129 PhysX system software, and an updated version 1.0.9.1 driver for NVIDIA GPUs with embedded HD audio. Apart from these there are application specific performance increments:

• Up to 13% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with a single GPU
• Up to 30% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with SLI technology
• Up to 13% performance increase in H.A.W.X with single GPU
• Up to 15% performance increase in H.A.W.X with SLI technology
• Up to 30% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with single GPU
• Up to 28% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with SLI technology

SLI profiles are added for Assassin Creed II, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Command and Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight, Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City, Mass Effect 2, Napoleon: Total War, and Zombie Driver. SLI support is improved further for World of Warcraft, and Unigine. It adds Ambient Occlusion support for Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, Need for Speed: Shift, Resident Evil 5, RUSE, and Street Fighter IV. AA issue for Mass Effect 2 is fixed with an AA override added. A large number of other bug fixes were included, and issues resolved. The last time I saw a performance increase like this from Nvidia was when they borked up shadows and the like in Crysis.

Those were the infamous 169.04 and in the end it was a glicth. Ati had a similar one with FarCry 2 and early HD5xxx suffered some too. It sometimes happens. Nvidia released 169.21 soon after that feature both the increased performance (greater than 169.04 actually) and zero gitches.

Nevermind, 185.sumething drivers had a similar performance increase and I have not heard of any problem to date.

For those who are using the Media Player classic as their video player, this driver version breaks the playback if your using the EVR outputs and you need to switch to VMR-7 to get things wrong. But if anyone knows of a fix or another work around please post!

These failed to make any increase on warhead for me with my standard benchmark, but it doesn't test minimum FPS. Also having crashing every other time I load a warhead level.

These drivers have worked wonders for me so far - Batman Arkham Asylum sees an increase with Physx and settings on High, I now have no problems running Borderlands with Dynamic Shadows on (a buttery smooth 60fps where previously I was getting weird framerate drops), no more shutdowns in games if vsync is not enabled and framerates in MW2 and Crysis Warhead have both increased nicely - VERY HAPPY Good job Nvidia

Excellent—my SLI scaling seems to have improved considerably in a few games. CoD4, MW2, and Battlefield BC2 are all running noticeably better.
