Do you desire for a free CPU upgrade? Of course, you do! ASRock Inc. today launched the UCC [Unlock CPU Core] Series motherboard that delivers added core processing power by enabling the ASRock exclusive UCC function of the AMD CPUs. Unprecedentedly integrated with ASRock exclusive UCC Chip, ASRock UCC function is well-designed to provide extra performance boost on ASRock UCC Series motherboards. In conjunction with AMD's 8XX Series chipsets, ASRock 890GX Extreme3 motherboard, the first UCC series motherboard, comes with unique UCC feature and supports both advanced rendering from HD 4290, DX10.1 graphics technology and ATI Quad CrossFireX, 3-Way CrossFireX technologies.

Equipped with an exclusive ASRock UCC Chip, ASRock 890GX Extreme3 is able to support the excellent UCC function. ASRock UCC feature allows users to enjoy an instant performance boost by simply tuning on the UCC switch on BIOS. ASRock 890GX Extreme3 is the ASRock True 333 series motherboards. The board offers the latest SATA3 6.0Gb/s and USB 3.0 5.0Gb/s technologies from the industry-leading NEC support. The real I/O includes 1 x external SATA3 connector through the Bundled eSATA3 Bracket and 2 x USB 3.0 ports for 10X faster data transfer speed. For memory part, it supports 4 X DDR3 1800(OC), Hyper Transport Bus 5200 MT/s, ATI Quad CrossFireX and 3-Way CrossFireX. For audio aspect, it features 7.1 CH, VIA 2020 audio codec with Premium Blu-ray audio support. Combined with advanced rendering from AMD Radeon HD 4290, DX10.1 graphics, ASRock 890GX Extreme3 offers the spectacular visual output (output options include: D-Sub, DVI-D, HDMI) as well.

Additionally, as part of True333 Series line-up, this board delivers exceptional reliability, safety and faster data transfer performance. Last but not least, ASRock 890GX Extreme3 even ensures users are ready to take advantage of the next wave of 6 Core CPU.

Unique ASRock UCC Chip Brings ASRock UCC [Unlock CPU Core] function
Different from the traditional AMD motherboard, ASRock UCC Series motherboard makes a new definition of how a motherboard will be used! Exclusively equipped with ASRock UCC Chip where ASRock UCC function was born to bring the CPU upgrade revolution. It is a new upgradeable motherboard usage that users enable the ASRock UCC (Unlock CPU Cores) feature in BIOS, and the CPU cores could be upgraded from X2/X3 to X4. ASRock UCC simplifies AMD CPU activation. Just a simple switch of the BIOS option 'UCC', you can unlock the extra CPU core to enjoy an instant performance boost. Additionally, some CPU can even increase L3 cache size up to 6MB. Not only on AMD 8XX series motherboards, we implement the UCC feature on entry Nvidia N68 series motherboards as well. ASRock UCC Series motherboards can bring the amazing CPU upgrade function for today's most demanding technology.

(Please be noted that UCC feature is supported with AM2+ / AM3 CPU only, also, not every AM2+ / AM3 CPU can support this function because some CPU's hidden core may be malfunctioned.)

FREE Gateway for CPU Upgrade with ASRock UCC
ASRock UCC Series is the world's first motherboard to natively support CPU upgrade function. As below flow chart shows, AMD PhenomII X3 720 can be upgraded to X4 cores after enabling the UCC function! ASRock UCC offers you a simple way to enjoy an instant boost performance. (*The success rate of this enhancement depends on the individual CPU).

At the last line, performance of 101 Fireworks is messed up. Worse performance when UCC enabled :D

woot found it

one other thing i dont consider it a mess up but it could be explained better the test rig is a phenom II X2 545 but the pictured one above is an X3 720 and talks about going from 3 cores to 4 cores oddly enough benchmarks are from 2 cores to 4 cores....

+1. Looks good.

Why is the need for an extra chip/feature for unlocking cores? The future chips like 890xx doesn't have that bug like the 790xx series?

Does this mean AMD is still going to continue the 'Wish me Luck' CPU series? No hard laser lock?

Damn, how many times do they have to mention UCC lol, ok we get it, but haven't ASUS been doing this anyway aswell as maybe some others with the SB710/750 ?

I agree though Asrock has came on leaps and bounds in the last year or so, be interesting to see what they come up with in the next year or so, they are getting a bit more of a rep for themselves and coming out with some good boards that could take some share away from the likes of Asus and Gigabyte ;)

OMG, this has to have the best layout for 890GX I've seen yet! And doesn't look anything like ASrock's older models...

Maybe it could have more PCIe's... 3 PCI's in a modern mobo looks like too much already :D

5 fan headers? A lot. 2 of them PWM...

EDIT:

That VIA VT2020 codec must be fresh chip, cant find it on VIA's page. 10 channels on that..
Asus has that on some of its boards

Instant Boot is interesting. Don't know how its done but Asrock says it will boot to windows in 4 seconds! Dont know if it implies to POST time and other rituals after that, or real boot time...

Wow my next board might be an ASrock,I just hope and pray they have an 890FX board as great looking as that one,Sorta reminds me of the ASUS boards from a few years ago when the Pentium line was blue and white with black pcb.

it basically boots your system to desktop, then hibernates it. hit the power button and watch it load oh so fast!

as to all the unlocking comments: i take it many of you arent aware of this whole deal - you can unlock extra cores, or turn athlon II's into phenom II's (enables L3 cache) - its got about a 50% success rate (higher on some models, like the 720 BE). Point is, you buy the chip and IF you get an unlockable one, you get free cores or cache - if not, you get the CPU you paid for.

As for why UCC is a big deal, ACC (the original AMD unlocking tool) is removed officially from all the new chipsets - they had to 'hack' the unlocking back in, and asrock were first to do so.

only if they release 'bad' x6 CPU's as quad cores.

oh they will....
zosma core is indeed a thuban core with crippled cores.
but then again, if yield is great, maybe a lot of thuban core with good working cores will make it into zosma.

bad news is....
there will be no refreshing line up for existing Phenom II X4 deneb core. stepping C3 is the last stepping of Deneb

its not amds doing and they've never endorsed it. Its you wishing yourself luck, and some manufacturers telling u "we can do it for u grantee." which amd does not endorse. But yeah i was thinking also same thing physicly smash it but in case of phenoms the clocks are still higher.
