EVGA Unleashes Full-Fledged Lineup of GeForce GTX 400 Series Graphics Cards

EVGA unleashed a lineup of graphics cards based on NVIDIA's new GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470 graphics processors, complete with overclocked, overclocker-friendly, and water cooling-ready models. While the air-cooled models retain NVIDIA's reference design, the Hydro Copper series models sport a full-coverage, copper-rich water-block made for EVGA by Swiftech. On the air-cooled offer are base-models for the GTX 480 and GTX 470 that use NVIDIA reference clock-speeds, and level-1 overclock (Superclocked / SC) models. The level-3 overclock (For The Win / FTW) only come under the Hydro Copper series, with no air-cooled FTW models. Details follow:

The card with stock clocks is $500 by itself. Add the fact that this is an OCed edition, and that typically raises the price $30 (as evidenced by the SC model), so that's $530. Not even taking into account that the Hydro Copper is actually overclocked even further than the SC. Now, full coverage blocks typically go for around $120 or more when just released, depending on outer covering and manufacturer.

$650, factory OCed, with a full coverage block and a full warranty actually sounds about right.

All we need now is longer MB's. With these in sli or 3-way its gonna cover everything up with no use to sound cards, tuners or any other pci cards. then we'll need cases that support more then 7 pci like a few do already.

Its gonna be interesting to see "how hot" they really are..
I remember people saying how cool the 5870s were (lol, they dont run that cool to me) so a real comparison would be sweet.

By that same token, buying a regular 480 and buying a separate full overage, single slot block isn't right either.

If a person is planning to water cool their 480 with a full coverage block anyway, this card is actually fairly priced. They are spending maybe an extra $20-30 to have it professionally installed, with it guaranteed to run faster than any of the stock cooled cards can manage, and still have the full warranty.

At current market values, $650 is the proper price.

i remmber my HD 4870x2 it was running on like 100C° + , and the stupid ATI said that was normal for that card..

the cards look ok... but IMO im suprised they look as .... erm.... boring and plain as they do for Evga usual standards...
BFG and Evga 200 series pre installed water cooled blocks looked alot better IMO, and were full cover.

Lets be honest it doesnt look anywhere near as sweet as this again IMO

if they need a waterblock just to keeps the temps ok with a 50mhz overclock, how BIG is going to be the stock cooler if nvidia releases a Fermi card with the full 512 CUDA cores enabled.

Fermi needs that waterblock to stay cool. But for 649$ you could buy a 5970, which is faster and actually has acceptable temps with the stock cooler.

The 5870 is a hot card, that much is sure, but I think what impressed people about it at launch was that it was a big step over the 4870 in terms of performance/watt, as well as the idle numbers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the entire left side of that waterblock is pretty much for the NVIO chip, which is absent from Fermi boards, meaning the EVGA block should be as effective, if not more effective than the one you posted. It looks pretty full-coverage to me, and damn slick with the heatsink fins...

Yeah, but if you are considering a card with a factory block, you are likely planning to watercool whatever video card you buy anyway. So then you have to throw another $140 to get a good full cover block for the 5970.
