All of them used to mean a lot, but technology have improved to such an extent that they don't really matter much anymore.

I just picked up a Benq M2700HD 27' monitor a few days ago (review here)

Picture and sound quality are of course subjective but here is the Benq vs. the Viewsonic based on spec. I paid about $380 US.

Same thing as the useless dynamic contrast, but with localized control. still useless though.

Too bad so few people realized the shitty-ness of "white" LEDs.

No way, view angle is crap, try using this LCD for movies viewing from half a room. 160º vertical is just too small!

Yep, that's the kind of thing that happens when you buy into hype. The 1ms rating is total and utter bullshit, but even if it weren't, the other attributes of Tn-film monitors, like viewing angles, are so crappy that they aren't really worth buying if you appreciate accuracy in your monitor.

I really hate Tn monitors. I'm glad to see more IPS stuff coming out in these recent months.

When I bought this monitor back in 2002 i thought that viewsonic was the worse trademark ever.
Now it is completely the other side. I love this monitor!!! 27" for 349$!!!!! Really cheap and crazy

Back in the day Viewsonic & iiyama used to battle like ati & nvidia did,, viewsonic always lost, because there spec's were always poor & there price was always higher,, I never liked there product, I currently use Acer 27'' @ 2048x1152. I think the price is the only thing this viewsonic 27'' has going for it,,

I have an IPS monitor. I just had to save for a long-ass time to get it. lol. It was worth it tho. I just used an el-cheapo 19" until I could afford a good monitor. I didn't fall into the incremental upgrade trap by buying a better monitor, but one lesser than what I really wanted, "to hold me off". I just suffered until I could get the good one. lol.

I'm proud to say I never ever purchased a TN pannel for myself, went straight from my 21" p1130 dell behemoth CRT to a IPS.

I'm an avid UT3 player and I can say I don't see an advantage in a 2ms or lower TN panel even for gaming. I even had the occasion a few times in knocking the stuffing out of owners of the praised 120Hz Samsung 2233RZ. Input lag means something yes; but the response time 1-2ms of TN film vs a 5-6ms IPS is utterly moot and unnoticeable (and I don't care how much coffee u had and try to prove me that u perceive otherwise ).

Please people the sooner you stop buying TN the better. if everyone bought IPS instead prices would go down faster, and the tech would evolve faster.

And is it just me or do them LED backlit ones have even worse color reproduction than the standard cf? I cannot yet find one decent review of LED lcd colour gamut vs it's cf counterpart. But from what I see in stores, yes sure the contrast is superb but the colours are oversaturaded even compared to standard TN over cf.

There are a handful of 22" IPS that can go as low as 200-300$ I dont find that expensive imho. In fact my 22" Dell 2209WA is incredible for both hardcore gaming and design as stated above and I payed 300$ for it. Only "fault" i could find is that E-IPS does have a slight "glare" effect on deep blacks if you watch from very sharp angles, higher end H-IPS doesnt have that problem because they use higher grade polarising coating, but it's nowhere near to the atrocity of gamma curve shifts and 6bit colours of TN film.

I did play Unreal tournament 3 on several "fast" TN pannels for testing purposes and I can say I did feel the input lag compared to a CRT.

On my IPS and on the Samsung 2233RZ 120Hz TN i felt no difference. That helped me decide which one to purchase.

300-550$ is an acceptable price range for a monitor, think of it this way, you'll probably swap 5 vga cards before you swap a monitor.

got to agree with ya their, white leds will and do fade after time, (possibly quicker than fluorescents)
and then because of varients in where the leds are temps and such,
some are likely to fade worse than others
led to me = shorter life and thinner screens which can cause more overheating
only time will tell

The viewing angle on a 24" TN monitor is very horrible regardless of the brand, Cant image how bad a 27" TN would be.. we would probably see a 30 and 32" TN's soon lol

Correct. If you were after a screen simply for the size, then it's a good price. Yet, anything over 26" is still considered enthusiast, and most monitors you find in such sizes, are costly for good reasons.

Like the Hanns G 28", this is a 'cheap' product.

If you know some people in the business, you could get an Iiyama or LG 26/27" for $400-450. The extra money is worth the quality of product.

TN film may be the lesser of the panel technology, but it's come a long ways. I wouldn't be surprised if we do eventually see 30" TN. Though TN is a manufacturer's dream compared to PVA and IPS - which are outdated and costly. So if the market demand is there, then at least they can 'afford' to make them and profit.

You are right, even with today's evolved TN, I wouldn't buy a 27" TN with only 1080P. Why not just get a television?

E-IPS is fu**ing horrible. It's a poorman's version of a proper panel. It's worse than basic VA technology.
