MSI Wind U250 AMD Vision Notebook Pictured

MSI's upcoming CULV notebook based on the AMD platform make its first public appearance at an event conducted by AMD in Paris. The Wind U250 is a 12.1-inch notebook is powered by an AMD Athlon II Neo K325 processor that runs at 1.3 GHz, which is aided by 4 GB of memory, DirectX 10.1 compliant graphics, and offers 320 GB of storage. The 12.1 inch display is likely to have a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. It comes with Windows 7 pre-installed. MSI may release it sometime this summer. More images at the source.

Exactly. Any CULV (even the single cores) run circles around even the dual core Atoms. My SU3500 Core 2 Solo was so much faster than the Atoms I tested, and I found my sweet spot with my Lenovo w/ SU7300 Core 2 Duo. Plus CULVs still have great battery life!

I would like to get a chance to try out AMDs CULV processors too, but with the i5 CULVs right around the corner..

IMHO, all comes down to price / battery life. If I see $399-449 with 4 hours + battery life, this will be a winner for sure! Not only will the Athlon II kick the crap out of any Atom, but the HD 3200, while still pretty weak, will annihilate the GMA 950 or 4500.

Noise is also a concern; my Dell Mini 9 has no moving parts (not even a fan) and I like it that way. HP MiniNotes I've played with are actually pretty noisy.

While only 1.3 Ghz, it is a dual core processor. The low clock speed will keep down power use and heat. The dual core should help a lot for multitasking. And 1.3 Ghz is more than enough for a netbook to do what it will be bought to do.

It is good to see AMD finally gave up that crap about not considering Netbooks a market they need to focus attention on. They should just admit they got caught with their pants down and didn't have anything for this market at the time.

Nice, but still no Netbook for me.

Well, the most power hungry Atom (D510) takes in ~10-13w, so I think its passable.

dont forget its as 12" screen, so that gives room for a larger battery than the atom systems - you may get the same amount of battery life as a more compact atom system

What? You should read the chart. The K325 1.3 Ghz processor this netbook is sporting is not 15W, it is 12W. Putting it in the same power range as the higher end Atoms.

Those are good numbers by AMD, but Intel is still ahead in TDP in their CULVs. The SU3500 and SU7300 I mentioned earlier are 5.5W and 10W respectively (yes I am bias )

I agree that Intel has the upper hand in CPU TDP.
Though, afaik AMD has superior chipsets, both graphics and TDP.

I'm betting that I could use PhenomMsrTweaker to drop the voltage on the cpu anyway, lowering the overall power

That's TDP, max power consumption. It's not representative of the CPU's continuous power.
Mainly because this CPU has Cool'n'Quiet (it can lower the clock speeds and the voltage dinamically), which the old Athlon Neos didn't have.
