Fujitsu-Siemens launches notebook with Mobility Radeon X1900

Fujitsu Siemens has launched a new Amilo-series notebook, the AMILO Xi 1554. It features a 17" CrystalView screen and is powered by a Centrino Core 2 Duo processor (1,66GHz, 1,83GHz and 2GHz versions are available). Most importantly, the laptop contains AMD/ATI's most powerful mobile GPU to date, the X1900. The graphics accelerator is placed on a MXM-III module, and has 256MB of memory. While ATI hasn't yet officially launched the Mobility Radeon X1900, this laptop indicates that the chip is just around the corner.

Well that would certainly put my desktop to shame. If I did have the money then this is certainly something that I would consider, my view is that I'll either get a very basic laptop that can perhaps play simple games but mainly do office apps for very little money or splash out and get the best I can. After all, with a laptop once you have it you're more or less stuck with those specs. This even has RAID, which really impresses me, not sure how many laptops do.

I know I don't have the budget but are there any ideas on the price yet?

Just be aware that Mobility GPUs work completely different than regular GPUs.
Their specs. are obviously not even close when compared to their Desktop counter-parts.
Also, mobility GPUs use system memory as well.
That is why it is usually recommended, if you are a gamer, to get 2GB of RAM in your laptops.
Dont get me wrong they came down a lot in price, but they are still too expensive to make a gaming machine out of. You could get one hell of a nicer system if you stuck with a Desktop.

Just be aware that Mobility GPUs work completely different than regular GPUs.
Their specs. are obviously not even close when compared to their Desktop counter-parts.
Also, mobility GPUs use system memory as well.
That is why it is usually recommended, if you are a gamer, to get 2GB of RAM in your laptops.

Yeah, I certainly don't have the budget to go for a laptop like that, but I bet even with a mobility GPU it would still get very high FPS, the one major downside with them is that the drivers are different for each manufacturer quite often and some games don't support them.

most igp's use system memory, but i'm pretty sure these don't, that's what makes them so much better than normal laptop graphics. the gpu would have to interact with ddr2 instead of the ddr3 it was designed for.

But the X1900 mobile is the most powerful GPU to date is it not? Unless I'm missing something, but I'm not aware of an X1950 mobile.
