ASUS rolled out yet another 10-inch Eee PC netbook, the 1005PX. ASUS uses the clamshell chassis design, which comes in a number of body colors, including black, white, blue, pink, and red. The 10.1 inch display is LED-backlit, and offers a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, and is driven by Intel GMA 3150. The system is care of Intel Atom N450 1.66 GHz single-core processor, 1 or 2 GB RAM, and gives storage options of 160, 250, 320 GB HDDs. Connectivity includes 802.11 b/g/n, 10/100 Ethernet, and Bluetooth 2.1, with a VGA webcam to top it off. The 6-cell battery can fuel the netbook for up to 8.5 hours on a full charge. The new Eee PC has started surfacing in stores in Thailand, where it goes for US $455.

I wonder what's the point in this "artificial variety" for netbooks that some manufacturers are creating.

They're selling tons of versions of the exact same netbook with slightly different plastic cases and different names.. What for?

They should be selling fewer variations so they could better focus their marketing in those machines.

Boring...

Same crappy resolution.
Horrible Intel GMA Graphics.
512MB of RAM...WTF?!?! Seriously, this is horrible, even for a netbook and add the GMA graphics sucking off of the 512MB...fuck that!

There is no reason a netbook should have any less than 1GB, especially not one that is over $400. At $450 this thing should have a minimum of 2GB.

Edit: Scratch that, BTA has 512MB, but the article and ASUS both list 1GB or 2GB.

Also, it seems the main reason for this model is the Matte screen, as opposed to the glossy that most netbooks have now. I can actually see that, as the glossy is rather difficult to use outside or in bright rooms sometimes.

Seriously.. are you going bash every single netbook out there? Because they're all the same, spec-wise (except for those puny 512MB.. shared with video memory.. auch).

Seriously.. are you going bash every single netbook out there? Because they're all the same, spec-wise (except for those puny 512MB.. shared with video memory.. auch).

Every time there is a news post, like the latest netbook releases is a big deal, when it is the same damn thing as every other netbook out there, yes I'm going to bash it to hell and back, becuase it is pointless to even put these up in the news section. I'm not bashing every netbook out there, I am bashing this one because it has 512MB(well it doesn't, but it was reported that it did), because 512MB even in a netbook is bash worthy, IMO. I'm more so bashing the fact that it made news, I'm tired of hearing news and press releases about the same damn netbook repackaged and re-released.

Give me a 10.1" netbook with a decent resolution, that would be news worthy.
Give me a 10.1" netbook that uses something other than shitty Intel Graphics, that would be news worthy.
Give me a 10.1" netbook that uses a Dual-Core Atom, that would be news worthy.
Give me a 10.1" netbook that has more than 1 So-Dimm slot, that would be news worthy.
Give me a new generation of Atom processors, and netbooks using them, that would be really news worthy.

Repackage the same crap over and over again, that isn't news worthy, and I'm tired of hearing about it.

The only thing that makes this netbook news worthy is the fact that it has a matte screen, and that isn't even mentioned in the new news post...

So what's the really difference between the 1005PX and the 1001PX?

So what's the really difference between the 1005PX and the 1001PX?

1001PX|1005PX
b/g Wireless*|b/g/n Wireless
3 Cell Battery Standard/6 Cell Optional**|6 Cell Battery Standard
160GB or 250GB HDD|160GB, 250GB, or 320GB HDD
Available in Black, White, and Blue|Available in Black, White, Blue, Red, and Pink
*Amazon Lists the 1001PX as having b/g/n, however ASUS says it only has b/g, I'm inclined to go with ASUS, because Amazon's decriptions are far from 100% accurate.
**The one on Amazon seems to come with the optional 6 Cell based on the battery life estimate, but it isn't specifically stated that it is the 6 Cell, so this could also be inaccurate as they could just be pulling the max estimate off the spec sheet and ignoring the fact that is has a 3 Cell.

I'm also quite annoyed that both of these only have 2 USB ports, the older EeePC netbooks had 3, this seems like a step backwards to me.

newtekie1, thanks for the comparo! I think I'd rather save the $$ and get the 1001PX. 1005PX isn't that much of an improvement over the 1001PX to warrant the extra $$.

I use mine for daily purposes. It sits on the tech bench with me whenever I'm in the shop, half of my posts here during the day are made using it, plus I use it for looking up information(mainly service manual on laptops) and downloading drivers for machines I'm working on.:toast:

Im planning to get one when i get the money. I wouldnt mind a propper 15" laptop with a bit of extra beef for gaming but theres no reason why I cant have both - netbook first for portability I can take everywhere. the laptop for when i want to take a trip to the library, jump on their free wi-fi & load up some Quake Arena

the 1001px is cheaper, less battery, led screen, mate case so finally no more fingerprints

i think 1001p has better value, 10$ more for more battery

many people use netbooks, unless you live in a trailer, you can't carry your uber pc or your heavy laptop everywhere
