Gainward Designs Overclocked GTX 460 Graphics Card with Double Memory

Gainward is working on an upper-mid range graphics card based on the newly released NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 graphics processor, with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface, and some factory-overclocked speeds. It is branded under Gainward's GOOD Golden Sample marker. That card uses Gainward's own design PCB and cooling solution. The red PCB is of the same length as the reference PCB, but holds four display connectors (any two can be used simultaneously), that include two DVI, one D-Sub, and HDMI. Based on the 40 nm GF104 GPU, Gainward's card has clock speeds of 700 MHz core (vs. 675 MHz reference), 1400 MHz CUDA core, and 900 MHz (3600 MHz effective) memory. It is likely to cost over 210 EUR.

I wonder if the 2GB memory footprint improves performance at 2560x1600 or with a dual-screen setup?

And would a 2GB setup kill an XP 32bit based PC with just 2GB system RAM (due to screen shadowing/mirroring)?

why on earth people would still be using a 32bit OS and using this type of hardware is beyond me.

32bit only OS's need to die.


edit: yes, it would slaughter your RAM. You'd have no DX10/11 support either.

They need to drop the D-sub and put a displayport on there. This is a Golden Sample enthusiast card after all, the D-sub is entirely superfluous especially if the DVI has analog output anyway.

Anyway, to me, this just seems like a desperate attempt to piggyback on the GTX460's fame and try to stretch it to the other market ranges... :shadedshu

I don't see how an extra 1gb of memory is going to make a difference. Time and time again when using a memory bus of 256 bits and lower it has shown it makes very little to no difference at all.

this could be the 460 i am looking for to get before the end of the year, i always wanted a 2gb video card.

With only 256bit bus, it won't perform much better than the 1gb version.

It's pretty much only for GTA at this point... maybe 2560x1600 with all the filters for some other games.... but if you can afford that res you're running a 480 or 2 GB 5870.

That extra 1GB for the GTX 460, IMO is a waste. The 2GB would have rocked for a GTX 470 or above.

Gainward cards aren't very popular here. Also, most of them sold here are ATI, that conveniently have red colored PCBs...

it wasnt the answer he was looking for,

to use such new and powerfull hardware on a 10yr old OS is just wack imo

build a 100$ rig then you can fire that up for whenever you need to play pacman

Every HDTV should at least have on HDMI input. That's what I use for my PC... a cable that is HDMI on one end and DVI on the other.

I have to say that I have managed to run ALL older games on Win 7-64! (they didn'r run on Vista 64, so...): Quake (Gl), even 3Dfx Glide games like NFS2, Motorhead, One Must Fall, Terminal Velocity, Shadow Warrior, Drakan, etc, etc. I also love those old games too )
