ASUS rolled out its Eee PC 1015PD netbook which brings with it a certain new hardware features, after numerous Eee PC models carrying essentially the same hardware. The new netbook packs second-generation Intel Atom N475 (1.83 GHz) or N455 (1.66 GHz) processor, 1 GB of DDR3 memory. USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 3.0 are the other new components that expand its connectivity, apart from the familiar 10/100 Ethernet, WiFi b/g/n, and a 6 cell battery. Standard components include a 10.1 inch screen with LED backlit illumination that has a native resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, 160, 250, or 320 GB HDD options, Intel GMA 3150 graphics, and a VGA webcam. It comes with Windows 7 Starter pre-installed. ASUS did not give out its pricing.

The next generation of Atom sounds interesting though, I wonder how they perform. Any benchmarks out?

I dont think with a 10.1" screen they wont be going much higher. Would get pretty hard to see for some people.

Why not? A netbook can certainly benefit from the ability to use faster external storage when needed.

I wouldn't want much higher, but I don't think 1280x720 would be too much to ask for. As it is I have to set my web browser to 90% Zoom to make web pages functional on 1024x600. The 9" version has the same 1024x600 resolution, so I don't see why the 10" version can't have a slightly higher resolution.

1280x720 would be cool I think, so I agree on that. Im on my Lenovo ideapad right now, my poor eyes couldnt handle much smaller than 1280x720. Its hell getting older. :ohwell:

I really like my Lenovo. Best netbook Ive seen for the money. I like the tablet ability. I shopped around and really found nothing that even came close for sub $400 price tag. I like that S12 also. Never saw one of those when I was shopping netbooks,

Agreed. 1024x600 should just die. One of the reasons I bought the Sony netbook was because it was 1366x768 LED backlight, very sharp. A world of difference compared to other netbooks. However, the Sony has other flaws. (Noisey fan, short battery life, glossy screen).

I just do not understand why anyone would buy a 1024x600 10.1" when 1366x768 10.1" are available. That small resolution is completely useless and much more tiring to use (constand scroll/zoom and poor quality for the eyes).

Oh, and the second thing that should die is 1GB netbook Windows 7 starter edition. 1GB is just too small and requires too much disk swapping/memory management my Windows which just slows down the whole netbook experience one step further. And W7 Starter is a horror.
