Galaxy Selects AMIMON for First Wireless Graphics Card Enabling PC-to-TV Connectivity

Galaxy Microsystems, a leading manufacturer and worldwide supplier of NVIDIA based graphics solutions, announced today that it has selected WHDI technology from AMIMON as the platform for it's new Galaxy GTX 460 WHDI Edition shipping in October. "Teaming with Galaxy introduces AMIMON's WHDI technology to the gaming community; with Galaxy and the WHDI technology gamers will be able to maximize high-quality HD graphics of HDTVs utilizing an uncompressed HD wireless link," said Shimon Greenberg, vice president of sales for AMIMON. "AMIMON's WHDI technology is gathering tremendous momentum across the consumer electronics ecosystem: gaming, PC-to-TV, wireless HDTV, etc."

The Galaxy GeForce GTX 460 WHDI Edition provides an uncompressed wireless PC-to-TV connection enabling consumers to view the entire content of their PC screen on their big screen TV. AMIMON's WHDI technology has no noticeable latency (less than one millisecond) making it an ideal solution for gaming. The no-latency link enables consumers to enjoy full interactive PC applications on their TV. Content such as Internet video, flash media, digital photos and PC games can all be viewed and experienced on the TV with a convenient wireless connection.

PC Gaming on a large HDTV is pretty awesome compared to a smaller monitor. I have the last DLP series HDTV from Samsung before they got out of the market, but the HDMI to miniHDMI connector and power cable are behind the TV so all I do is bring the PC to the TV and hook it up. This would be a little easier though. I play games that support the controller anyhow on the HDTV so it's an easy setup to play on the couch.

You misunderstand, WHDI is one of a number of standards in development to provide wireless HD transmission in the home. Sure you can do it with dual N-class but the content providers would rather have some control over how you can do it.

alright im completely lost, instead of just running an hdmi line....you want my gpu to have a wireless link to a box that then connects to my display...instead of just connecting it to the display? Sorry but i fail to see the need for yet another box to be plugged into my already taxed power outlets.

tap into the city grid. thats what i do. right out to the junction box.

I have a feeling this will work as well as wireless USB has. I just don't understand the fascination with trying to replace 10.2 Gbit/s max bandwidth (HDMI), etc with wireless. Current RF technology just can't push enough data -

wow, connecting a HDMI cable seems so much easyer, theyre dead cheap too, depending on where you shop, 10m shouldnt be expensive at all.

not to mention you then become limited to this gfx card, whereas with a HDMI cable you can connect it to any really with an adapter at most, AND no extra power used for the end device that connects to the telly.

I find myself asking Galaxy... Why?

FPS isn't going to be stellar on a huge 1080P TV with one of these. I'll stick to my 24" monitor for 1080P+, thanks.

Yeah, i think its a little ridiculous they tout its targeted toward gamers, gamers don't want this its useless to them IMO. As a gamer, I'll stick to everything being wired and reliable thanks. ..

for a HTPC frontend though, it seems quite interesting, but it should have some kind of wireless usb too, otherwise, lets say you put the box in your lounge, and have this installed in your back end/high end system, how do you plan to control the interface from another room? a wifi hub in the box so you could plug in a htpc remote or other peripheral would make it a more total solution for an AIO htpc setup.

This makes sense for me actually, having a PC connected to 2 monitors on my desk and TV is in front some 10mts further in front, no way to wire it without it being noticeable. Switch output to TV and voila.

But well, I've got a SFF PC with a GTX460 hooked up to the big screen TV anyway...a bit too late would have saved some bucks.

If this tech would be a separate and cheap addon card or a dongle on the DVI port for instance and it could be made to work on any existing GPU I'd be all over it

its wireless. i run 30M of HDMI cables between rooms here between rooms, wireless would do it just as well.

so your pc is 30m away from your display? so how are you going to control this thing? you have a wireless kb+ mouse with a 30m range? this thing have a built in remote?

dinove edge, so yeah, it can actually run 30M away

i cheated and ran a USB cable along with it, so i just move the wireless receiver between rooms as needed (or use a corded one direct to the PC)


(the actual distance i run is closer to 15M than 30, i just have 30M of cabling cause i run two screens - and i want to run them in either room, regardless of PC location)
