Zalman Kick Starts its SSD Lineup

Zalman made its entry into the solid state drive (SSD) business by unveiling two lines of SATA SSDs in the 2.5 inch form factor. It includes the value-oriented S-series, and the performance-oriented N-series. Available in 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB, the S-series models make use of a JMicron controller with up to 260 MB/s of read speeds, and 60 MB/s writes for the 32 GB model, 120 MB/s writes for the 64 GB one, and 210 MB/s for the 128 GB one. The Zalman S-series 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB SSDs are expected to be priced at US $99, $149, and $249, respectively. These drives do support the TRIM function.

The N-series SSDs make use of a SandForce SF-12xx controller, with sequential read speeds of up to 280 MB/s and 270 MB/s writes, consistent for both the 64 GB and 128 GB models. The N-series 64 GB model is priced at $169, and 128 GB model at $289.

Wow, very bizarre of them to be delving into this market. I guess it's profitable enough for manufacturers that they were attracted to it.

I agree, but at the same time, their spshpeal is silent computing, and their really isn't anything quiter than an SSD, so it kind of makes sense I suppose, it's just I didn't see this comeing at all.

I wonder whom's OEM their using, my guess would be Samsung.

Perhaps if you have the ears of a cat, I personally find their products to be silent and also given they had/have a range of passive solutions, um passive = 0db = absolute silence.

Wow this is an unexpected announcement..
Makes sense for silent computing I guess,
but they are no doubt getting these OEM'd from somewhere in Taiwan.

"128 GB model at $289" a Crucial RealSSD C300 128 Gb is 289$ too, maybe if i receive a free Zalman cooler i'll buy one
