Corsair Ready with SP2500 2.1 Gaming Speakers

With resounding market success with memory and power-supply units, Corsair diversified extensively over the years, entering into cooling, cases, solid-state drives, and very recently, gaming headsets. The latest product from Corsair is also in the PC audio category, albeit being a 2.1 channel desktop speaker set. The Corsair SP2500 is a 2.1 channel PC "gaming speaker" set that delivers 232W (RMS) of continuous power using six Class-D amplifiers.

The set consists of an 8-inch subwoofer in a fourth-order bandpass enclosure; two satellites with 3-inch drivers and 1-inch ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeters. User control is care of a wired control module with knobs, buttons, and a 1.8-inch TFT-LCD color status display. Slated for launch later this week, the Corsair SP2500 2.1 gaming speaker set is said to be priced at US $259.99.

1st of all, the product quality seems to be just above crappy, same as all Corsair products.
2nd of all, the RMS power is laughable, I have an MX5021 from Altec Lansing with 90W of RMS power and THX certification.
3rd of all and most important the price is absolutely insane and without any possible justifiable reason: no certifications, no wireless/Bluetooth speakers, no bundle, no build quality. Why, just because it has a Corsair tag on it?

When i saw the picture i thought this may be a suitable option to replace my old crapped out 2.1 speakers that i keep putting off replacing...... until i saw the price.

I actually think those speaker are most likely overpriced crap, but that has nothing to do with the fact that Corsair sells some excellent memory, PSUs and CPU coolers and has top-notch customer service.

Really they could sound great for all we know but the price is just crazy, if it was a 7.1 setup i would have no issue with the price but for 2.1 it's just crazy no matter how high quality they could be.

To be honest going by most other corsair branded products i would assume these are pretty good quality as unlike Sir Alex Ice i understand corsair does not just slap their name on any crappy product they can find.
I love the quality of my corsair H50 branded Asetek cooler and corsair HX620W branded Seasonic PSU although that does make me wonder who makes these speakers for corsair.

I don't see the point of these, way too expensive for 2.1 desktop speakers you can get inexpensive micro hi-fi system for a lower price and it will blow it out of the water no doubt.

I would prefer a 2.0/2.1 setup on my desktop speakers for music, for surround I use my sennheiser headphones and sound card for X-Fi CMSS 3D 7.1 Surround Virtualization with elevation filter. Sounds accurate and imo much more practical than placing 7 speakers around the computer desk and behind my self....

For me, its not the price. It's that is a bloody 2.1!!!!. If that thing EVER gets here, it would cost around 400 USD. With that amount of money you can have here a 5.1 Samsung WITH THE RECEIVER. I might even get enough for the spdif cable.

Exactly. If it says Corsair , people will buy it. Just look at the H50 Corsair cooler, it's Asetek the OEM, but people just don't mind to pay more if it says Corsair; same thing with their PSU. EDIT: I missed your post Bear Jesus.

I highly doubt this set will sound any where near as good as Klipsch Promedia 2.1. However, you have to give credit to Corsair's top notch customer service. I recently RMA my second hand PSU and they replaced it without any hassle or requiring proof of purchase.

No it's not the same. PSU's are custom built. So what if CWT is the vendor, they are build to Corsair specs and designs. If Corsair wants top notch components inside, CWT will use them.

Memory is made by others for 3/4 of RAM sticks and then branded under someone else but again, cooler design on for example Dominators is special in a way even if they are nothing special otherwise.

And i must say, tech support is pretty good and their webpage is really well made. Fotr some, that's very important. Same goes for Corsair H50. That's why making a brand is so important, because ppl will remember you, trust you and keep on buying your stuff.

For Corsair i can safely say they either make quality stuff or they have a good test department that picks up quality OEM's. In the end, if it has Corsair sticker on it, you can be sure you bought a good product. That's something i can safely say.

Yea many people will buy for the corsair brand alone and that means they could easily get ripped off with something like these speakers (IMO far from a good deal no matter how great the quality).

I myself have chosen the corsair brand on multiple products due to availability and customer support but never without knowing everything i can about the product first as i know I'm just buying re branded hardware so i should look into the company that really makes the product.

But considering how great the value and quality is on other corsair branded products i have to wonder if these speakers are made by something like Sennheiser

Well, on paper they aren't bad really. Class D amplifier, silk dome tweeters for soft but detailed highs (Altec Lansing MX5021, even though superb, they are a bit harsh with aluminum tweeters) and plenty of power. For anything else, i'd have to hear them.

Really i think this is a major problem with speakers, none of us could truly judge how good they are without hearing them and even then it is a very subjective experience, although these would have to be the best speakers i have ever heard in my life to pay that much for such a small 2.1 setup

It would be nice to see power distribution between subwoofer and satellites and frequency response for each. This way you can get a general idea what they are aiming, a more "boomy" experience or a good power coverage. I know these specs are often overhyped but they do help get general idea about the product.

For the price, they'd better sound good, especially as they've already failed in terms of looks: sorry, but big chunks of black plastic, especially that remote! They make my M-Audios almost look pleasant. Co-incidentally they have the same tweeter technology as my speakers "1-inch ferrofluid-cooled silk dome", but one inch less mid range drivers.

Love the look but the price is ridiculous. Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 are over priced too at 150 to 250 bucks (Depending on where you see them) I miss the ProMedia 5.1s though I can say this, good to see someone else with speakers since Creative has been slow (and got rid of Cambridge Soundworks) and Logitech isnt really putting out anything new.

As far as other speakers go i only have 3 favorites:
Harman Kardon Soundsticks III
Altec Lansing MX6021
Creative GigaWorks T3

With T3 being slightly more expensive, but they all fall into sub 200 EUR category.
Too bad Altec Lansing MX5021 aren't available anymore. For 150 EUR they were by far the best bang for buck.

Regarding their excellent memory products, they change IC inside them more often than you change your socks. Which mean product quality, overclocking potential and even compatibility is highly based on your luck.
Their flash products have started to use MLC memory, same as all the other cheap producers, so nothing really special there.
So now they are paying some OEM to make for them CPU coolers, headsets and now speakers. VERY expensive speakers.

Think rationally, stop beying fanboys, because the Corsair from NOW is no longer the good, reliable producer they used to be years ago.

My HX750 isn't whining. I don't care what IC is used in RAM sticks, at least i got what the specs say, not like with OCZ where they advertized CL7, but i actually got CL8. Because of that i was having 6 months of crashing and BSOD hell. Plus i like the looks of those Dominators. MLC!? Everyone use MLC in consumer products. Only enterprise products use super expensive SLC. Not sure why are you even complaining over that.
And what's up with coolers!? Before the Hydro H50 i didn't even know about closed loop coolers. So even if Asetek does the exactly same thing, how come they aren't better known that Hydro H50 ? Weird eh?
