Sapphire producing dual processor X1950pro

Sapphire Technology, a leading manufacturer of ATI graphics cards, has a new card nicknamed The Godfather. The card features two X1950pro graphics processing units and has been built to the 9" riser board standards, utilising a single 16x PCI-Express slot. According to Sapphire, this card performs similarly to two X1950pros in Crossfire. If the card uses the same speeds as standard X1950pros then it can be expected to have core speeds of 575MHz and memory at 700MHz, although this might be reduced if there are heat issues. The card appears to be crossfire capable, so it is likely that two of them could be used together for "Quad-Crossfire".

The only way this would be worth it, is if the price comes significantly below the R600's. I wish they had done this sooner.

Agreed overcast, but this sure is damn interesting. Too bad it took ATI board partners so long to match what nvidia (BFG and XFX I believe) had done with the 7900 in essence taking two 7900 GTS and making a SLI in one 7950 GX2. This is indeed a promising outlook in the fact that its quad crossfire for their quad FX series.

All late model video cards will be able to run DX10 just not as well as the cards made specifically to run it smoothly. And didn't 3dFX have a dual processor GPU? that was years ago.

I dont think DX10 is all its cracked up to be. To me, its just the industry teaming up to milk us for even more money and quite frankly Im sick of it.

eh? Im sorry but you are wrong. DirectX 10 may well be backwards compatible with earlier DX levels due to the inclusion of DX9 EX which is a legacy version of DX 9.c, but DX9 cards will not be capable of running DX10 functions.

DX10 is all about the unified shaders rather than the discreet pixel and vertex shaders used by DX9 cards.

may i add that you can find some 6600 that have dual GPUs on them (made by PNY i believe but i could be wrong) and it does appear a little to late to make any diff though if the price drops with R600 they may be worth there money or become a collectors item in the future

I agree, it's beginning to get like the clock-speed wars that Intel and AMD had but instead of speed it's number - who can pack the most cores into one processor. And once again, they'll hit a brick wall with performance and have to go back to improving the basic technology.

you are sort of right - DX10 is all new, but it can emulate DX9 so it is backwards compatible. Look at the 8800GTX - not only is it the first DX10 card, but it is the fastest DX9 card by a mile.

good

dual core gpu makes way more sense than dual graphics cards. i mean comeon people! this sli/crossfire thing is just a fad and a way to bilk us out of money as manufacturers promise unprecedented gaming performance! meanwhile they continue to improve their single slot cards and lower prices by the month. bullocks!

as consumers we demand low power components that run both quiet and cool. so this new card makes sense to me.

nice card, but it makes no sence to me to use two X1950Pro cores. Why not do something meaningful and use two X1950XT cores? >.<

Because the 1950pro measures up to the 7900GT which is the same gpu used on the 7950GX2, they take two 1950pro cores and put it on one pcp they have something equal to the 7950GX2 but with more overclocking ability. Then they can let lose the ability for Quad Crossfire for the first time.
