While NVIDIA has had some trouble getting into the entry-level GPU market in the past, the company should have some better luck this time. The G84 series will be the first entry level DX10 GPU, set to replace the 7300 series as a graphics card for people who do not want to spend a fortune on graphics. It has an unknown level of pipelines, but it will be a stripped down version of the G80. The G84 will support Shader Model 4, have unified shaders and be fully compatible with SLI. The G84 should be announced at CeBIT in March.

I'm pretty sure that the G82 is the entry level and the G84 is the mainstream..

G82: 16 unified shaders, 4 tmu's, 4 rop's,
750mhz Shader clock, 400mhz core, Memory is 64bit.

G84: 64 unified shaders, 16 tmu's, 16 rop's,
1ghz shader clock, 500mhz core clock, 256 bit 750mhz mem clock.

Thats only speculation, but its what i have so far.

Two very excellent points, but I think that cdawall is on to something with a universal drop in hardware prices. I mean sure, Vista is coming out...oh wait that will just make up for it right there . You win some, lose some, I guess (Vista = $250ish for Home Premium, XP Home = $90). I really ought to get myself a $110 copy of XP MCE with free Vista upgrade coupon (no charge Vista Home Premium DVD, gotta love that).

I own an AGP card myself but I think AGP should just die. :p

M$ should just make some press announcement: 'Sorry, AGP doesn't work with Vista' and be done with it ;p

haha. i wish i could reverse time. 5 months ago i made the big switch to dual core amd from my old socket 2.4 socket 478. i spent 1000 doing that and gettin an x1800xt. i should have been patient and used a little foresight. i should have just upgraded my 478 to a 3.0ghz prescott, upgraded my ram and got an agp 800XL. would have saved 500 bucks and it would run just about everything i do just as fast. except some games but heavens forbid i cant run every game at high res!!! then i could put that money into dx10 stuff late next year. oh well.

Ill just use my X1950 PRO as a physics card thanks (NOTHING WILL STOP THE DREMEL ON THE 975X/G!!!).

Being serious, at least ATI/AMD actually consider what their customers think.

I'd rather have cheap hardware and expensive Vista than vice versa. Good incentive to learn Linux, no?

M$ should just make some press announcement: 'Sorry, AGP doesn't work with Vista' and be done with it ;p

That would make the new x1950 pro AGP cards EXTREMELY useless. I agree, though. AGP is getting old, but my system is still somewhat game-worthy. 754 Semp3400 & X850 XT AGP on a DFI LanParty UT. It does what I want it to, so...

ha everything cept VISTA will be cheap just wait till DX10 is hacked to run on XP vista=crap

I'd like to see some good reasons why all the Vista versions deserve their bloated prices. I can see a good bit of work in it, but it seems like "98/ME to XP" =(is about the same as)= "XP to Vista"

I would think Nvidia would do an AGP version of these cards. I mean, everyone thought they wouldnt with the 7XX0 series and they did

...and it would seem like there are some AGP people out there who would love to have DX10. I upgraded from a Radeon 9800 Pro to Radeon x850 Pro AGP for the sake of being able to play games. Why wouldn't someone ditch their old graphics card to squeeze the last bit of life out of their system?

First entry level DX10 GPU? S3 showed off the first DX10 capable board long ago, if they launch it in the next 6 months S3 could easily take the title.
