OCZ Technology Unveils the Vertex 3 and Vertex 3 Pro SATA 6 Gbps SSDs

OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) for computing devices and systems, today unveiled its next generation Vertex 3 SATA III SSD product family, a lineup that caters to both client and enterprise applications. Harnessing the 6Gbps speed of the SATA III interface, the new series delivers double the performance of the previous generation.

The Vertex 3 is the first solution to feature the new SandForce SF-2200 SSD processor, and raises the bar in performance with up to 550MB/s read and 500 MB/s write transfer rates and up to 60,000 IOPS (4k random write). I am sad to see them pulling out of RAM business, but their SSD's are just another chance to continue to use a company that has taken very good care of me in my 4 years as a customer, and that makes solid quality products.

Well the 3 series has a new Sandforce chip that's faster. The revamped 2 series is somewhat underwhelming with 25nm because it's 1) slightly slower 2) needs more flash partitioned as redundant so there's slightly less available space.

Don't know about Newegg, but this is the offical new release on 2011-02-24.
Maybe soon.

I don't follow ya the Vertex 2's have been selling like hot cakes and everyone's been raving about them and the Sand Force controller they use. The new Vertex 3's as mentioned have the new 2nd gen Sand Force controller in them. They compress data in realtime using the controllers hardware to write less data to the MLC memory cells. It should speed things up since there's less actual writing going on and it should lengthen the life of the MLC memory cells too. If you know how SSD's write data you know they actually have to write much more than what's really there. The amount of data to be written is amplified many times because of the way SSD's and MLC's work so anything that shortens that amount up is a good thing. It's win, win. Well at least it should be. I just hope the prices stay the same and don't jump up. I want to get into an SSD soon so this should be perfect. If these are the right price and there's no issues I might just have to get one myself!

You need to read up what the products you're rambling about actually are. Original Vertex used Indilinx Barefoot controllers, Vertex 2 used Sandforce SF-1k series ctrls, Vertex 3 uses Sandforce SF-2k series ctrls.
No Vertex-branded drive has dual controllers (internal RAID).
