AMD's next-generation high-end desktop processor line, the AMD FX-series, is inching toward a June 11 launch, according to DonanimHaber. FX-Series is hyped for being based on the company's next-generation "Bulldozer" architecture, which is a built from ground up x86-64 processor design. AMD's FX-series will include 8-core, 6-core, and 4-core models, and will optimally run on a new socket currently referred to as "AM3+". Major motherboard vendors are expected to release AM3+ motherboards based on various chipsets around the same time.

Honestly I have owned Intel products for the past few years. But that is only because AMD has been letting me down for quite some time now. I have always preferred AMD over Intel. Just my personal choice. But honestly I finally got tired of waiting. I also believe that the hype will only be validated in some areas and not all over. Like most things are... that come out in the computer world.

So that's the reason that in this final hour of waiting I decided my money would be better spent on SB system then a Bulldozer system. I can't keep waiting around for a Hyped system that may or may not work out to my advantage.

I really hope I made the wrong decision though.... so I can upgrade again. But sadly I don't think I did.

Longest three months of my life.

What has me wondering is whether or not these guys are AM3 compatible. The newer AM3+ boards have a hole for an extra pin which would make the new CPUs not pin compatible with current boards which will ultimately require you to buy a new board. At the same time, board manufacturers like ASUS and MSI are claiming support for AM3+ CPUs on some boards even though they have the regular AM3 socket. What's going on?

I sure hope the hype is not for nothing, like the case with Cayman. It would be good for consumers if AMD could seriously compete with Intel in the high-end section of the market. Well, at least now we have a date to wait for. Better start saving up!

MEH

I can't afford anything in the "high end" so it doesn't matter to me, along with 98% of the market. Most people buy cheapy dell's and hp's with sub $100 cpus also. My 955 BE is more than I will ever use, although there is nothing wrong with wanting extra H.P. :)
My next upgrade will be an SSD
I built my aunt a PC a few months ago with an athlon II 3.1ghz and she is all amazed at how fast it is!!

I do hope they are on par with sandyB though, AMD could use some PR boosting.

Yea, and then Intel will have an answer to Bulldozer within a month or 2. Pisses me off that they have tenfold the amount of money & resources versus what AMD has :banghead:

Ahhh...I just remembered when I had an FX-60 and it was roundabouts the fastest thing around.

Then I bought a Core 2 Duo E6700

AM3 CPUs will work in AM3+ motherboards.

As to AM3+ CPUs working in AM3 motherboards, there's an entire thread about that here.

I just hope the 8 Core AMD processor will beat the 6 Core Intel processor, at least in some benchmarks.

I don't understand your logic in this matter. What made you decide to make a swift decision?

If you are upgrading, that means that you are not in need of a system, so you could have waited until some benchmarks were posted for "Bulldozer" but instead, you just bought a SB processor.

My logic is that I have been waiting and waiting too long for Bulldozer. My Intel days started by saying something like " Ohhh I will upgrade to Intel Just until Bulldozer releases because that's right around the corner." Well that was back in 2008....Now 2/3 years I am just tired of waiting... Intel has been good to me while I was waiting. And all I have heard from the AMD camp is "We promise the next CPU will beat Intel or be better" Well.... Bulldozer maybe? and if it does..... I will probably get one. But for right now I am not holding my breath.... and I will go with the proven competition..... which is Intel right at the moment.

Plus I have a feeling if Bulldozer was going to be as hardcore as they say.... there would be allot more Unofficial benchmarks out about it. I could and hope I am wrong....but right now I am just a Frustrated ex AMD/CPU customer!

Love the packaging. Performance should be more than adequate over the Phenom 2s and even the hexacores. I hope it finally competes with Intel again or better like it did 5 years ago. We shall see but I see an FX 4-8 core and a new USB 3.0 mobo coming my way.
