XFX Radeon HD 6790 Pictured, Too

XFX is ready with its Radeon HD 6790, too. The XFX HD679XZDFC is a completely in-house designed HD 6790 implementation by XFX, including a custom PCB and cooler, which can also be found on its HD 6800 series models. Essentially, HD 6790's electricals on this particular board match those of the HD 6870. The PCB uses a 4+2 phase VRM for the Barts LE GPU, which packs 800 stream processors and 256-bit GDDR5 memory interface holding 1 GB of memory; power is drawn from two 6-pin power connectors.

Moving on to the cooler, it uses a large aluminum fin array to which heat is fed by three copper heat pipes that make direct contact with the GPU. It is ventilated by two 80 mm fans. Display outputs resemble those of the HD 6870, more than those of the HD 6850; there are two each of DVI and mini-DisplayPort 1.2, and one full-size HDMI 1.4a. The card can pair with another (probably any Barts-based card) for 2-way CrossFire. Expect it to be out on Thursday.

And again no cool plate over VRAM's. These coolers are complete hit and miss. GPU gets a slight boost but VRAM chuips are always left naked underneath.

I really don't like how graphics cards are getting bigger. This is supposed to be the next step up from a 5600 series card and it's a dual-slot. Hell, some of the 5770s were single slot.

what i like from radeon is you have many custom layout, like pcb, cooler, bundle and so and so and its not limited only on lower end you can find it on high end card

I think everybody here is forgetting this card is a BARTS GPU, the same as the 6800 series, requires 2 6pins and uses the same PCB as the 6870 more or less, if this card was made into a single-slot it would be like the single-slot 4850 and 4870s all over again

I think it depends on the Manufacturer... PowerColor's 6790 only has one 6-pin connector and looks virtually identical to their 6850, except for the display port configuration.

its not that huge, i think its same with HAWX series from MSI.

dual slot card became common nowadays and most of support-crossfire/sli motherboards can put these two things with no problem.

Now thats number 6 down from their highest end card not including the 5xxx series their still packing in between them.

You mean to tell me they cant do a single slot solution on a med level card that has a single power connector.Dont tell me they dont make one because Colorfire makes it.

People need to stop accepting how hot these newer gpu's are running.

How is it the die size gets smaller and they continue to get hotter and hotter every new series they make.

I call bull shit on both AMD and Nvidia :shadedshu

its not always true, smaller die doesn't mean you don't have to count how much they put transistors into it..

wizz had said, with 6790 on references you got 83 C on load and 42 dB noise, i consider it still higher for such med - high end card. and i couldnt imagine if this made for single slot solution, it would be more hotter and generate much more noise because the fan are getting smaller and still blow hot air back into the case..

for single slot, maybe turks, bart xt, and barts pro had a chance for it.
