Spire Announces the Swirl Universal CPU Cooler

Spire Corp officially introduced its new Swirl CPU cooler today. Utilizing three (3) sintered powder all copper 8mm thick heat pipes and a vertical cylinder design the Swirl is ready to push your CPU to maximum performance. The Swirl is constructed with a combination of an all copper base and all-direction aluminum fins to provide sufficient heat-transfer and good cooling for the hot 130W ~ 150W micro-processors. The Swirl heat-sink and heat-pipes are both soldered and protected with a thin layer of dark-nickel coating to protect from oxidation and to preserve awesome looks. The vertical mounted fan is equipped with 4 bright red LEDs that give a cool glow inside your enclosure. Universal support for both Intel and AMD based systems makes this a versatile solution for any PC system. The Swirl is one of the most appealing coolers on the market and a great solution for those enthusiasts, gamers and professionals alike.

Who still uses CPU coolers controlled by a potentiometer on an expansion bracket? I'd like to be reminded if anybody still has that.

I am. Well, the CPU fan is now running at 100%, my case fans are controlled by potentiometer. For daily use i have it at 100%, for night i switch it to minimum (not sure how much it is but it silent enough). I was thinking of connecting CPU fan on it as well but it's so silent that i don't see any point in doing that.

Btw, this concept is not exactly new. Gigabyte had it years ago and some other company as well. Can't remember the name.

you're talking about gigabytes with blue leds? forgot the name but i had one during 775 days. they were decent, but they were a bitch to clean.

thats interesting where spire using different airflow when the others using vertical fans
but it looks need more heat pipes to improve heat transfer from base to the fins

Designed for 150w, somehow I cannot see this cooler as any good with overclocked processors.

Me too, although i hate it. Reaching round the back of the case to adjust the power is annoying. i want to cut it off and get a 5.25" fan controller.

yep. Gigabyte 3D rocket, this is nearly identical to the "3D Rocket" by Gigbayte, they had two iterations.

and in response to wahdangun... i've often wondered that too... I've even wondered why they haven't started mounting cpus on cards with a gfx card type blower.

The SpinQ VT has 3 heatpipes (6mm).

probably would have been cheaper for them (and us) to just put larger heatpipes then and keep the same fin design... maybe slightly larger fins (not thicker, but larger diameter)

also... i think a potentiometer for the LEDs would be nice alongside the fan speed one... and maybe as a front bay unit instead of in the back.

I only ever crank the fan up when I'm testing overclocks, otherwise it's on the lowest setting. Doesn't get too hot even when gaming.. then again I only have a 95W Phenom II. While it's an inconvenience, I don't have a problem with the cooler, but I would have preferred something that went out to a 3.5" bay.
