i like my mobile phones to be well built. especially since they do go through alot of abuse.
cant even count the number of times my old nokia should have been completley broken but came out practically unscaved... those old nokia's are built like a house brick.

Couple of things I'd like to toss into the fray:
Screen size/res is pretty much par for the course. There are bigger, there are denser, and there are bigger AND denser.
The pricetag is ABSURD!
It brings nothing new, revolutionary, or advantageous to the table over a typical smartphone; indeed, it offers *less*. No physical keyboard (and hopefully we all know how well onscreen keyboards work *cough cough*), no trackball (optical or physical), no GPS, no 3G or similar...

And oh yeah, looks like a BITCH to use as a phone. Am I the only one left that likes to... erm... talk on his cellphone? If it wasn't explicitly named the iPhone I would assume it was a weird-ass PMP, not a phone. Call me old-fashioned, but i enjoy a nice phone conversation every once in a while...

Don't call me an apple hater. I was *praying* the iPhone would revolutionize the cellphone industry in the USA, and I was let down. I'm actually sad

Consider what the phone is compared to others...wifi and bluetooth...pretty freakin sweet. OS X, a big chunk of memory, a camera that can at least take semi-decent pictures, alright, a 3mp camera would be a little more idea, but consider what else this thing does. I know $500 seems outrageous, but compared to other phones at the same price, it's quite competitive.

It isnt too bad for what you get, but you get a phone locked into a provider, which is BS.

Also, cell providers arent going to like this. As of now, many of them lock in the media of phones to their own mobile stores, that means ring tones, wall papers, and music/video. The iPhone would bypass all that with wifi internet and the iTunes connection, so expect cellular providers to jack up prices (greedy bastards...)

sorry to all you apple lovers but i dont see the point..i would rather have a 200 camera that was a 5mp, a 2gb mp3 player $150 or less, and a cell phone (nextel i830 $60 on ebay).

yea, but they're oddly shapen, bulky, and ugly. The same thing exists in the automobile world, you have low end cars that you can get fully loaded that do everything the luxury car does, but, is still isn't a luxury car. Wait, the treo has wifi?

OK, so I watched the keynote intro for the iphone, and it looks even schweeter. just seeing the device in action... AMAZING!!

But I'll only buy it if it has the following:
1. Expandable software library
2. Support for the popular messaging clients (AIM, MSN)
3. SKYPE!!! whats the point of wifi without it???? I'm at school w/ wifi all the time, that would sure cut down on phone bills.
4. You don't need a expensive data plan to buy the thing.

Something, anything, to make the telecomms stop sucking. Locking users into a service plan on cingular with all the crippling annoyances of the US telecomm situation? Not exactly what i was hoping for.

you would have to hope that their approval is merely a rubber stamp away - surely they wouldn't be so stupid to launch a product and place a 12m unit order with their suppliers if they didn't think FCC approval was anything more than a formality. I bet most consumer electronics are developed with FCC regs in mind, and its one of the last things they do in case they change the spec from the beginning of the project to the end.

then again............

I also wonder if they have agreed a settlement with the company who had the iPhone name registered or if they are going to take their chances in court AGAIN

I dont like apple. Period . Ive never used anything apple related, and everyone i know who has apple stuff, always breaks on them. I also hear the constant "F***ING ITUNES!", hence, drag and drop FTW

P.S. I like the looks of this thing...but they are getting sewed , so they'll need to put the prices up to get back the money if they lose the court case
