No there isn't.

AMD just isn't very good at making CPUs.

and if they aren't very good at that there going to get more money doing something they are good at

Codenamed a GPU New Zealand?

So people from other far away countries do know of New Zealand.

Isn't that... that place on the east side of Cape of Africa. Actual love ya all, how's your winter...:toast:

I think we're all hoping for a "pipe cleaner" to show the in end of Q3 beginning of Q4. A 6780 (that's the only # left) that has between 6790-6850 performance (something about a GTX460 768Mb), while lower power than a 5770.

It seems like AMD is more focused on there GPU line than there CPU line . Or is this just me :twitch:

OS design isn't making the computer seem more responsive. So increased graphics ability it the new thing, plus most CPU's are completely adequate for todays useage. the graphics, not so much.

28nm, FINALLY!

Looking forward to see how much lower they can bring down temps with a single slot card by going 28nm, especially the next iteration of the 6670 to 7670. Can't fit a dual slotter in my micro-atx case (TV tuner card in the way), and I tend not to use AC very much in my apartment; as a result, I can't play any games during the day without my 4650 shutting down due to high temps. Can't wait till winter...

Best to have products out before making a name for yourself it's basicly what I meant, and Radeon really is creating a name for amd almost by itself :p

The question I want the answer to: Are these cards going to be released on time? If not, I'll jump the gun on a new rig right after Bulldozer comes out. If yes, then I'll wait and build it at Christmas.

Look at AMD/ATi's release schedule from the past few years. They'll be released by Christmas, probablly somewhere between September and November.

That sure is what I'm hoping. AMD has been pretty reliable as to release dates, but this being a new manufacturing process, there's always a risk of delays from TSMC's side.

Southern Islands is the next generation of AMD Radeon GPUs, which will possibly see propagation of VLIW4 SIMD design to GPUs in all market segments

I thought the southern island GPU's would no longer use VLIW4 but be moving on to a total new architecture that will be used in future fusion products as well, detailed here.

I would assume this means the low/mid rage cards could be VLIW4 with the top end cards using the new architecture like what was done with VLIW5 and VLIW4 across the 6xxx card range, does that sound right or have i taken this all the wrong way?

The article is so vague that you might as well take it with a big grain of salt. It reads that these cards MAY use 28NM, and they MAY just be a refresh. I for one am confused as well just by this article, so I won't rely on it for information.

There are many other articles about it as its based on information from the recent fusion event but that could suggest this is the architecture AMD will be using in future fusion products which would make sense but if this is the architecture that will be on future add in cards it would make sense to me that it is the architecture that AMD wanted to introduce with 32nm but instead chopped down VLIW5 to VLIW4 for the 69xx cards on the second 40nm generation of chips as more of a space saving thing until the 28nm chips where the big change would come.

But yes a lot of vague information, assumptions and guesses so until much closer to the launch or even down to launch day few people will know for sure wtf is really coming

it was posted on rage ages ago as you say, AMD due to 32nm falling on its ass pushed back southern islands core and only used some of the ideas used in its shader core due to space and impending complexity 32nm was already looking doubtfull but they did well with what they had mine rocks for an old card now 7xxx is proper redesigned core and shader :D

hopefully it should be good as they've had a fair while to perfect its design

No there isn't.

AMD just isn't very good at making CPUs.

Where do people come up with this shit ? AMD decided to focus most of the R&D resources towards BD and APU when they bought ATI, they have been putting out a product that fits in the market place while building something new and different. The question is, will this bet payoff ?

:toast:
Nice chart, gives a decent idea about where what fits in, I presume the Lombok is the a-3850 / APU or something, would be nice if ATI did a similar chart for the upcoming / current cpu's as well.
The names is useless and might as well stay internal at ATI.

Any idea if there would be some form of performance increase maybe 8% or more seeing it is a new chip revision of the old 5XXX series ?
Would be sad if this is only a numbers bump or the same old & busted in new clothes that is slightly overclocked.

Thanks ATI, now show us what these puppy's can do. :rockout:

ATI, before the ATI7xxx release please change from only Justin Bieber songs played to your development staff to Thunder Struck from ACDC. :p It might just make financial sense.

The Spanish (?) chart does not look right considering "Thames" was leaked as a 15-20W TDP, 73xx-75xx Mobile codename in 2010 December and reconfirmed in 2011 March.
http://vr-zone.com/articles/report-amd-s-28nm-mobile-gpu-roadmap/11591.html

Although that chart is likely wishful thinking, it is probably close. Just remove Thames, and move up Lompok to 78xx.

So based on current rumors and past TSMC performance, it will likely be Lompok as 78xx sometime between September, but as late as November. Thames 73xx-75xx Mobile as Dual GPU Crossfire (for A8 & A6 APUs) around the same time frame. Tahiti 79xx probably November or next year. New Zealand 7990 next year or toward the tail end of the Tahiti release.
