A lawsuit filed in Ontario Superior Court, which aspires to gaining class-action status, accuses Dell of selling notebooks with defects...that they knew about. The prosecution is claiming that the Dell Inspiron 1100, 1150, 5100, 5150 or 5160 were designed in a way that caused premature motherboard failure due to overheating. A Dell spokeswoman has no comment on this lawsuit.

when will companies learn its safer to do a recall than to get your name dragged through the mud and sued.

There is plenty of evidence to support the reality that most of the Asian mobos produced in the past several years have been defective in design, engineering and or manufacture. Dell's problems are part of a larger eco system problem that many in the media have chosen to ignore. This lawsuit may be just the tip of the iceberg. Most of the Asian mobo companies may get class action lawsuits for knowingly selling defective goods without prior disclosure and failing to recall and replace these defective products once the media and consumers documented and reported the product defects.

um no where are you coming from with this

most defective mobo's are doa or die soon after and are either repaired or replaced free of charge including things that where damaged by the faulty mobo such as ram cpu ect

There was a report on the internet somewhere about the quality of the asian mobo market. They could still sale faulty mobos with loose connections that will eventually come off in a few days (caps, heatsinks, diodes, etc)

I am sure they will have a hard time proving this. There are plenty of Dell laptop owners out there that never have a problem with overheating. So all Dell has to say is it is the user's fault, and it is usually true.

I use all Asian components and nevr have problems... JAP caps are the best, and the general design tends to be all fine and good...

well my 5150 needs to be RAISED up so the fans can suck cool air, bad design but if you simply put two risers under the back it props nicely and the fans cycle normally
