Intel Cuts Prices of Nine Sandy Bridge Processors This Fall

This fall, Intel plans a series of price-cuts covering its second-generation Core processor family, and Sandy Bridge-based Pentium Dual Core processors. The cuts will see prices lowered by roughly $10 across the board. The cuts cover dual-core Intel Pentium G630 and G850, dual-core Core i3-2120, i7-2390T, and quad-core Core i5-2400S, i5-2405S, i5-2500S, i5-2500T, and i7-2600S. Prime selling enthusiast models such as i5-2500, i5-2500K, i7-2600, i7-2600K don't feature in this list. Most of these cuts will come into effect in September, the price cuts of i3-2120, and the two Pentium Dual Core chips, will come into effect in October.

Sorta glad they didn't. Having hard time resisting sb and waiting for 2011. If sb got anymore attractive would end up with 2 new systems.

Starting 2 believe bd is the name of a marketing tactic 2 generate buzz for amd that worked too well and now they're scrambling to come up with something or it does exist and is just different with no performance increase what so ever seriously just kidding. Amd & intel playing the 1 up game while were stuck in the stands

It’s sad to see Intel dragging down the good Pentium name by using it to advertise what's essentially a Celeron… they could come up with new name?

It wouldn't make sense for them to drop the price on the 2500k/2600k since they are selling so well to begin with. They would be shooting themselves in the foot if they did that. The demand isn't going to increase all that much if they drop it another $10 or so.

slash the 2500k to 200 and the 2600k to 280-290 and itll be hard for me to choose which one to go to when i upgrade next month. Im also considering BD

That's what I'm saying..... if the k's got any cheaper i'd have 2 get 1. And prob still get 2011 so I'm sorta glad they didn't go down

I don't know, some of the 775 "Pentiums" were cheap little overclocking monsters and had reputations for being bargains. I thought that most of the Celerons had like 1/5 the backside cache of the Pentiums back in the day?. These newer "Pentiums" have like 1/2 the cache of the big boys (and of course half the cores/threads). But yeah I might agree with you although the brand name means little to me.

yea i got my 775 pentium for $30 E5300 2.6 running at 3.0... i know a modest overclock but my mobo is getting old so i didn't want to stress it too much

oh and those pentiums aren't quite as crippled as a celeron would be.. they still have all their cache (for a dual) just no HT (the SB ones)

This "price drop" is nothing more than an adjustment for $ exchange rates and to maintain a similar price/performance in EURO and Asia markets
