Cons
Major heat output while gaming. Currently the console is only using 3-5 processors, and very little of its potential graphics power, so heat will increase as games become more demanding.

Who says that's a bad thing, for people who are cheap and don't feel like spending money on things like the heat so they can game, a PS3 sounds like a very pretty space heater :D.

Newtekie, I was born and raised in Hammond, In, which isnt far from merriville or gary. I moved down south in 90 cause of the parents and have been here ever since. Nice to know someone from my old stomping grounds!!

I grew up in Calumet City, IL 2 blocks from the border into Hammond(I was actually born at a hospital in Hammond). :toast:

Thank you error_force. About time someone stood up for the PS3. Its more than a game console, though its main benefit is that. It is the cheapest Blue-Ray player and its a multimedia console, not just games. Couldnt have said it better myself.

I wasn't being negaitve, just stating the reasons it doesn't appeal to as many people as the other consoles right now. I have to admit I was literally a coins flip away from buying one when I was in Best Buy the other day. I'll get one eventually, I keep saying that will be after the price drop, but everytime I see one I am just so tempted to buy one.

I went to a shopping centre in sydney and asked if they sold the Wii... they went "everytime we get some stock, the first day, it sells out... I'm sorry but you will have to reserve it"

Had a go on this PS3 was left feeling really unimpressed, graphically it was average to say the least the 360 looked better, Hell my PC looked better.
The shop assistant also told me it overheated about five times a day.

The graphics will come, give the developers a year to tinker with the system like they have had with the 360 then judge the graphics. There are a few games that graphically look amazing in the PS3's launch lineup though, they already rival 360 games. However, graphcis aren't important in a fun game. Look at the Wii, it is selling like hotcakes, yet it has pretty poor graphics compared to the other two systems competing against it.

As for the overheating, I believe Sony released something saying they purposely sent out units that would restart after a few hours of use to be used as Demo setups in store to prevent one person from sitting at the demo station all day long. I haven't hear of many users actually having any overheating issues, in fact I haven't heard of any.

Game developers currently do not know how to code for the cell processor. As far as I have read, sound uses one core, physics uses a core, ai uses one, collision detection another, and finally game based ai (weather etc). Also neither the 360 or ps3 are anywhere near their max visual output. it took years for the ps2 and xbox to be figured out and correctly coded for.

on another note, the ps3's main competition is from the ps2. many many more ps2s were sold this xmas then anything else, as they were on sale with bundled games. people also know what to expect and have some familiarity with it.

for the overheating, my buddy hasnt had any problems with it shutting down or crashing, but im sure the closed display cases are shutting down the ps3s alot faster then a "demo reset".

Sony need to look at the game IP they own and market it more. They could do so much more with the eyetoy to get back abit of what wii has taken away. sega superstars does a reasonable job showing it works well for modenish games. (athlough you do look abit of a prat shouting at the screen to call over the crazitaxi) ;)

Wipeout, rollcage, destructions derby. just some games that everyone knows and have high potential if developed on the ps3. relighing souly on mgs4,GT,GTA doesnt do them any favours (although im sure to buy when available). and GodOfWar had better get a good ps3 version :D
