Alpenfohn Unveils Triglav CPU Cooler with 10 mm Thick Heat Pipes

European company EKL's Alpenfohn unveiled the first pictures of its Triglav tower-type CPU cooler. Its heatsink makes use of 'massive' 10 mm thick heat pipes. To put that into some perspective, 4~6 mm thick heat pipes are common, 8 mm thick ones have till now been considered thickest, for round heat pipes. The three 10 mm thick heat pipes are made of nickel-plated copper, and pass through 46 aluminum fins that are arranged in a turbulence-inducing pattern (improves heat dissipation, so fan speed can be lowered at its expense). Ventilation is care of a 120 mm Hydro Bearing fan that features PWM control, spins between 800 and 1500 RPM, with up to 21.4 dBA noise output. The Alpenfohn Trigav is priced at €39.90.

Doesn't seem to make sense mathematically. 10mm diameter, that means that the circumference of one heat pipe is 10 * 3,14 = 31,4. That times three, the number of heatpipes, and you'll get a total circumference of around 94mm. If you take six 6mm heatpipes, the total circumference will be 113mm.

Could be just a coincidence or the Alpenfohn is using the names of various mountains for their names.

Seems CPU coolers are currently all taking the same design.
I think now, it comes down to which brand you like since I bet most these coolers which look like the ThermalRight Xtreme 120 practically perform the same give or take a couple of degrees.

Your mathematics does not make sense. You need to worry about both surface area and cross sectional area if you are worried about heat transfer, not just surface area. A larger heatpipe carries more heat, but can conduct less efficiently.

Alpenfohn is the name of a mountain wind, so I am not surprised by their naming choice.

Alpenföhn Matterhorn, Zugspitze, Gross Glockner, Heidi even, I believe. They're known for their name choices. They have some fan grommets they've named Spätzle, an Austrian food speciality (altho its common in Germany and Switzerland, too).

Its when one side of the mountain has the most beautiful weather, and the other side suffers from rain, storms and other shit, due to the mountains holding up the clouds. Its ratehr more complicated than just that but its the general idea.

It does, it has clip points on both sides of the cooler.

Interested to see how this performs as nordwand pretty much only uses 3 of it's heat pipes anyway and cools like a beast.

It's just the angle notice the fins are not symmetrical it clips just slightly lower is all

It still has a gap down the side of it like this

well the matterhorn had a large amount of hype and failed with sub-par performance and was overpriced. let's hope this one is different

I wonder when we'll see some other more efficient design that's not a classic tower design. I always liked Zalman in this regard, they were usually doing the tower design in their own way. For example CNPS11X Extreme which is suppose to be pretty good. Scythe is also experimenting a lot with the cooler shapes.

ye, that is good design and engineering, not just using the bigger is better approach!

It has to be said, it didn't get much hype aside from people commenting that "it looks like a decent cooler" (it's just a darker Nordwand rev b after all)

It's performance is decent but not ground breaking.

And it was competitively priced.

I.E everything of the same performance is around the same price as it. ( Megahalems coolink corator etc)

Don't understand the dislike for it
