New eight-pin PCI Express GPU power connector leaked

It is no surprise that the current 75W six-pin power connector isn't giving graphics cards enough electricity. The NVIDIA 8800GTX uses two connectors to give it enough power, and we can only speculate as to how much power AMD's upcoming R600 will use. And so, a new eight-pin power connector has been leaked, and should arrive just in time to power the R600 (if needed).

Well as long as it's the same pinout as the 8-pin CPU connector... I've already got one hanging un-used in my case.

nope its different. as you can see from the picture the two extra pins are moved out of line from the rest, so the eps12v and pci-e plugs are different.

i have a 700 watt ocz PSU. if i have to buy a new damned PSU just to get the r600 working i will be very very displeased.

Probably why Thermaltake decided to make their own Graphics PSU. Nice idea, but its kind of sad when a great quality 600 or 750W PSU just doesnt cut it and you need a PSU just for a graphics adapter or 4. I mean, they need to get on the ball and roll on with less is more! (Less power that is)

Will we even have discreet GPUs in a few years? It may well be taken care of by one or more of the cores in a MultiCore CPU.
