HIS unveiled a new Radeon HD 6970 graphics card that makes use of its IceQ cooler design, which features what the company calls Eyefinity RTS (ready to see). Simply put, this card lets you set up 3-display Eyefinity without needing to connect any of the displays to the mini-DisplayPort connectors. The third display can be connected to the HDMI 1.4 port, instead.

The feature weeds out the need for hard-to-find mini-DP active dongles. An increasing number of full HD monitors support the HDMI interface, they naturally support DVI, and hence this card makes setting up a 3-display Eyefinity a lot easier, in essence, "ready" out of the box. That aside, the card sticks to AMD reference clock speeds of 880 MHz core and 5.50 GHz memory, and features 2 GB of GDDR5 memory. Pricing and availability information is not known.

I never understood why AMD didnt enable this on reference cards, without the need for dispalyport adapters.

Sapphire and HIS have done it and they are basically the same price, AMD made people mess with expensive adapters and confusion to enable eyefinity when it could have been avoided.

I hope that cooler is nice and quit and cold I have always wanted to try one out. still think they should get rid of the top DVI more vents.

mini DP active dongles are hard to find? lol

At Fry's I saw a PILE of them right next to the graphics cards. There had to be hundreds of them, and they were all on sale for like $15. I don't see how they are difficult to find, but the concept is neat.

The card looks like the old AMD cards with the red translucent coolers. It's a nice throwback style.

in a time warp

I could've sworn HIS already released this and the 6870( the one they did a few days ago0 earlier.

Specs look good, but the card looks like a toy from the 99cent store . . . .:shadedshu

looks nice. Is it me or does the cooler not change much since say um...3k series or even older. They must be doin something right to not change it much.

The clear plastic is really cheap looking. I didn't want to say anything, but you're totally right.

The shape is also a bit funky. I like the solid look and feel of the reference cards myself.

Going back even further, reminds me of my old X1800GTO IceQ3. A nice card (which was still running in someone's computer somewhere last I heard) and one which made me a fan of the IceQ coolers.

Personally i love the semi clear plastic on these coolers although that's because i like to see the heatsink, i would like one that is truly clear with no sticker on it even more but that's just me.

But what confuses me is why people think the plastic on this could look cheaper than any other colour plastic, surly it could only be called cheap by knowing they type of plastic and thickness otherwise how by looks alone could it be considered any cheaper than the plastic covers on every other graphics card?

It's just a frosted white colour to go with the iceq branding, if they called it black edition and used black plastic would it still look cheap?

They may look like something a small retarded child on LSD would design. But every HIS IceQ Ive owned (3850, 3870, 4850) cooled very well. Never a heat problem.

While i do agree the colour scheme with these cards are kinda meh, the frosted/clear plastic will be great for seeing when u need to clean the dust out ;) coz itll end up a greyish black in no time haha. The shape of the cooler looks pretty cool if you ask me and gives the impression that itll cool even an indians anus, with any luck.

Congrats on 666!!!

Well the plastic is almost the same, but the actual heatsink has changed as they now have heatpipes.

i like his cards as i also own 1 with iceq3 however i already asked on other news thread if the heatpipes are from real copper or not;his has the tendency to galvanize i knew because my cooler look like from copper but scratched you can see the beauty ;however is a good cooler.

so anyone has scratched this new cooler at pipes? is copper ?

My old HIS 3870's had a heat pipe, but not 4 of them. Hard to compare a 4670 (4th place for performance of 4xxx) to a top of the line card.

Here's the old 3870

And yep, I do love the IceQ's, they look sexy under a black light.

Very true, here is the 4870 2 heat pipes I really like these coolers!:D

That plastic looks cheap...

Glad to see cards are supporting 3 display natively. Hoping that all 7xx series cards will be able to do that as well. Is tri link DVI to much to ask for?

For those who dont know the design of the iceq cooler is originally from arctic cooling. Look at the design of the Vga Silencer Series. I think Ac released the design to HIS
