Ditch The Restrictive DRM: Happy Customers Equals More Profit

I find it humorous that some people here try to sit on high, condemning "pirates" when the thread has nothing to do with piracy. It's almost obsessive and they are completely blind to the actual topic of this thread.

i say burn em all!!!!!!

Also I have NEVER had an issue with DRM that I couldn't work out legally.
I'm curious, does this involve actually buying a copy of the bits in question, or just showing your middle finger and a hard nose?
1) Demo'ers: They try before they buy. Publishers still might make money off of them but only if the product is good and there isn't something (like over zealous DRM) that keeps them from buying. DRM can prevent a sale in this group.

2) Causal: They obtain the material and never pay for it. If they can't circumvent the DRM, they throw it in the recycle bin and that's that. DRM has no impact on this group.

3) Criminals: They obtain the material (may or may not be purchased), mass produce conterfeits, and sell it for bargin rates making a fortune off of it without the publishers seeing a dime. DRM has no impact on this group (at least once it is defeated).
I'd like to add a fourth, as I've actually seen this group mentioned in scholarly studies:
4) Super-consumers: Buy tons of bytes, but steal a good bit of it too. They've heard it, seen it and played it; even if they had to pry it out of George Lucas' hands. ;)

That'll a BIG FAT +1 from me on that

not to mention extortionate prices new games here in NZ cost between $95 and $115 bucks, add to that the always on Internet connection you must have to even play single player which will cost you $70 per month, and any fee's they charge to play on their servers and you can see where I'm going.... Just how much am I expected to keep paying to play something I already payed for

Don't forget the DLCs. Very few of those aren't rip offs.

DLC = stuff that should have been in the initial release but was held back to keep you hooked for longer

yea but with DLCs you don't have to pay for it. Also, a lot of DLC is developed after the game is released. Funny about all the complaining but kids will still buy games. Bunch of whiners.

I've seen some that you do take diablo II the DLC for that was Lord of destruction that cost almost as much as the original and added frag all to the game

Lord of Destruction was an Expansion, not DLC.

LoD was necessity in my opinion. after playing i had to replace it twice (due to my own negligence) because i couldn't play vanilla d2 anymore without it. and not for mp, but simply because of the additional characters and chest, act, etc.

expansion or DLC same frigging thing just a different name

Almost, but not quite.

An expansion pack, in this case Diablo II: LoD retailed for probably $20 cheaper than the core game. A new campaign beyond
killing Diablo (Love the gratuitous use of spoiler tags?)
which included new environments, weapons, enemies and 2 new classes.

DLC, in this case Civilization V adds one, maybe two new civilizations to play as and probably a new map as well. They sell for $5 each, which when you add up all of it comes out to be quite a bit more money for what you would have gotten with a full expansion.

actually, no. if you weren't around for real expansions i can understand your misconception. it's only recently that they have been lumped together.
