Alienware Area-51 comes pre-overclocked

Alienware's latest update to the Area-51 power-notebook range gives you the option to equip it with a Core 2 Duo T7600 factory overclocked from 2.33GHz to 2.66GHz, along with quite an impressive line up of features. Part of the newly introduced m5790 special edition range, this notebook can be customised up to the CPU speed above, 2GB DDR2 RAM, a 17" 1920x1200 screen, a 100GB SATA drive at 7,200 RPM, a dual-layer Blu-ray drive, Bluetooth, HD 7.1 sound and ATI X1900 mobility graphics. Those specs will set you back $3,659, although there are other extras you could chose to add. You can also pay more to get an upgrade to Vista, with this notebook being the only 17" model on the market that comes pre-overclocked.

I've noticed that the Blu-ray drive alone costs $600, which is a fair price but you could save $550 if you went for a DVD-RW instead.

Nothing pre-overclocked is a good deal. Remmember that.

Whats the point of the 1920x1200 resolution? You cant use that on a 17".

Well, the Alienware site itself gives that resolution, so I'm assuming it's correct. It would be good for watching HD films, but when running windows you'd have to set a lower resolution I think.

Or just set it to use larger icons and fonts.

intel should just make a higher speed cpu so companies cant charge a premium for "overclocked" stuff.

The ONLY point of using a higher resolution, is because ur monitor is too big for a smaller one.

This stupid gimic is pointless.

You can watch HD movies in 800x600 and it wont look better than in 2560x1600 if its the SAME 17" monitor.

Setting Windows to use larger fonts and icons will have absolutely zero effect on the quality of your resolution the only thing it changes is your fonts and icons, period. All else remains unchanged. And there is a huge difference between 800x600 and 2560x1600 on an LCD monitor.

Hmm , i guess its a good deal, but I'd rather build me own and foot stomp that fubared glorified Dell :toast:

P.s. out of all the dells , this does seem better than normal ,but still the foot stomp .
