Overclockers releases Vista Early

Overclockers.co.uk, one of the major computer parts suppliers in the UK, looks like it is beginning to sell Windows Vista ten days before schedule. Apparently the site told the Inquirer that it is now selling and shipping the software, and Vista is certainly listed as in-stock instead of pre-order. Although none of the upgrade or retail versions are available yet, you can get your hands on both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate, all OEM. I would have though they'll get into trouble with this unless they have permission from M$ - at the moment it's letting them make money whilst the other companies sit and wait. Not sure what will happen, probably just get told to stop by M$.

So have you got hold of a copy yet DS?

Glad this had a direct benefit for you, I'm still going to wait and see which bugs are ironed out of Vista before I get it, but I do have a birthday coming up soon - I wasn't planning to get it but I might dual boot XP and Vista Home Premium OEM does seem a fair price. I definately won't be getting 64-bit though, the drive support just isn't there.

FYI all 32 bit drivers are not allowed to be WHQL certified unless there is a 64 bit driver which passes the same certification. Driver support being bad for 64 bit is dead with XP. All in all we as consumers benefit, our hardware can finally be exploited!

Well, looking around I can find at least Alpha drivers for everythinge except my Wireless LAN. That's the same story as when I tried the beta. I know that it works with Vista 32 bit, but I never got it working with 64bit, so I don't know whether to take the gamble and put some time into (possibly unsuccessful) driver modding. I guess I could always get another card but this one is so stable... I need to chose between 32bit and 64bit.

Yeah, should be even cheaper in the US. I'm thinking I might get Vista when my birthday comes - the problem is that I am still on AGP, so when I do upgrade to DX10 that'll take a call to M$ because I'll have a new motherboard, but we'll see if they buy it

I'm not a strong supporter of piracy, but in this case I am paying for the software at least, M$ are getting a healthy chunk of cash from me. Plus you have the fact that it is cheaper to buy two OEM versions than one retail anyway looking at most UK prices... I should be able to get it for £70. Then I think I'll dual boot for a while, and if an AGP DX10 card comes out (which I bet it will they keep on chucking out AGP cards) then I might go for that.

$150 - tax. Tax is ~15% across Europe. So 150/1.15 ~ $130.
