Acer Intros New 23-inch Ultra-Slim Monitors in Japan

Acer introduced two new ultra-slim LED-backlit LCD monitors in Japan, both sized 23-inch. These include the S235HLBii and S230HLCii (pictured below in that order). The S235HLbii sports a swanky sharp-edged design with a smart base (that which holds the connections), while the S230HLCii features a more conventional design. Another major difference between the two is that while the former is HDCP-capable and features as many as two HDMI inputs, the latter, quite shockingly, lacks digital inputs - even DVI at that - and only features a D-Sub analog input. Those aside, both monitors sport 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, 5 ms response time, 250 cd/m² maximum brightness, 1,000:1 static contrast ratio, and viewing angles of 170/160 degrees. The pricing of the two remains unclear.

Office computers are rarely updated or replaced. A cheap D-sub only monitor makes sense for that market.

The only things going for it are, nice design, matte screen, and just $120 for the monitor!

Office computers are rarely updated or replaced. A cheap D-sub only monitor makes sense for that market.

If my office's computers have DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort, I always hook up the monitor to the digital output. The picture quality is noticeably better (to my eyes, anyway) than analog SVGA.

The one good thing I see out of at least one of these monitors is that they moved the connectors to the base rather than the back of the unit. That would be INFINITELY easier to both cable manage and hook up.

The one bad thing is that is makes the panel entirely impossible to VESA mount. Unfortunately, it's going to have to stay reserved for low-end.

Yea the ports seem more accessible since the support thing is on one side and the ports on the other. Ports in the base looks much nicer too

There are 2 hdmi ports on that screen with not center foot...,
Tn ia good for gaming and extern psu's isn't a problem only makes monitors slimmer

Off-centre stands just look wrong and wobble more. A bit like off-centre legs on a chair. It aint balanced and it isnt fung-shui. It doesnt matter how strong they make it, it looks naff and like an 80's haircut.

I know you haven't seen it before, but Acer's been doing it for a while now.

Now, it does look nicer then when the first started the line.. But, without the VESA Mount.. I'm losing though of getting anything else.. Now that everyone wants "thin" it's a pain to fine one that will work.. Work in your price range.

Let me clarify that: All of our monitors have digital inputs of one type or another (DVI, HDMI, or DisplayPort). If the computer also has a digital output, then that's the way to go. SVGA is my connection of last resort.
