Prepare for your RAM to cost you a little bit more early next year! According to the chairman and CEO Simon Chen for Taiwan-based memory module maker Adata Technology the previous cuts in DRAM production will begin to take effect in early January thus effecting the consumers bottom line. He is quoted as saying, "The rebound is mainly because cuts in DRAM output will begin to take effect, PC makers will replenish DRAM inventories and so will buyers on the spot market in January.' He also said, 'PC makers are expected to hike inventory level from two weeks to one month."

Mr. Chen went on to say, "The popularity of Ultrabook PCs will reduce demand for DRAM, but total demand for DRAM will not decrease because of large potential demand for server DRAM arising from fast growth in cloud computing-based applications. However, large demand for Ultrabook PCs will take off when prices fall to US$599 and they are equipped with Microsoft Windows 8." In tough economic times this is a bitter pill to swallow but to be expected given the laws of supply and demand.

I never want to buy ram again.... 1600 Mhz 8gb kits hit $25 during black friday week. 32 Gbs for $100. Normally $180. I can't stand paying more later, especially that much more.

I'm going to buy a new ivybridge chipset board with either the next gen 2500k or 2600k, and i'm planning to OC on air quite a bit, does anyone have any advice as to which memory sticks I should go with? I'm looking to go with preferably 16GB of high performing 1866-2400 speed memory but i dont want to pay a fortune for it. Also if it hampers overclocking I'm willing to settle for 8 GB.

Should I maybe get me one of them quadchannel sets? I'll go with 4x4gb because 8gb sticks arent very economical at the moment.

Thats the pricewatch I'll be using to get em from, as they list about every Dutch electronics seller.

Tnx in advance

thats the most expensive set i'd be willing to go for.

Just get the cheapest 4gb performance ram sticks that you can get, you don't really need the frequency boost when OC'ing Intel chips now that they started to only use multipliers, unless of course you need the little boost XD

I'm getting pretty good at my predictions these days.

Just looks like a replay of the HDD price-hike oppurtunity....
...RAM has become stupidly cheap within the last year - watch out for the same thing happening there too

Well, we all know how these w*nkers work. "Hmmm, why don't we just claim a lack of availability and jack the price up over 200%?" I think I'm just going to stop buying new PC parts because it seems like they're trying to take the p*ss out of us left right and f*cking center. What's the next PC part that's going to be deemed "too cheap"?

I feel strongly on this kind of oppurtunistic price-hiking.

GRRRR so it's not even a lack of availability, just a massive demand that they apparently "can't keep up with". F*CK YOU PENNY PINCHING B*STARDS.

That is all.

Penny pinching is how normal people stay in business. Its even better when said pinching can create demand and in this case it did. Mr. Chen is just a savvy CEO. Spending needlessly is the governments job. No one will "bailout" the DRAM industry if they create more supply then demand.

Yea even better for them, but not for the customer. Remember I'm a customer; I don't want prices to go up. "Savvy" (oppurtunistic) CEO saw HDD's prices jump and decided to force the same situation with RAM. IMO it doesn't matter whether it's business. Prices go up for me = bad.
I just don't understand why you're defending it unless you're going to be happy with 4GB DDR3 jumping from $30 to $80.

Its good for their economy. I wish more CEO's were as responsible for their company as Chen seems to be. Dirt cheap goods is not healthy for long term development. Hes not gouging. Hes making profit. There has to be a balance.

Its good for their economy. I wish more CEO's were as responsible for their company as Chen seems to be. Dirt cheap goods is not healthy for long term development. There has to be a balance.

It's not dirt cheap (at least not over here) but it's cheap. 4GB 1600 C9 is only £20. I know that's cheap, but the thing is, this is where the market is going to be hiked most. Once again, the poor people who can only afford cheap stuff get stiffed. How is it good for the economy when you're stopping people from being able to afford your goods? I've been regularly buying 2GB sticks for customer's rigs because it's all they can afford (2GB with Windows 7 is more than enough so that's all they needed and could afford)

A 4GB kit of decent RAM will cost £50+ so tbh it's not dirt cheap when people are looking for 6/8GB nowadays.

I'm having a hard time finding a single RAM manufacturer that hasn't made a healthy profit this year so I would say, they already have a balance: They have a selection of cheap and expensive goods and they're going to snuff out poor people like me just to make all goods expensive.

Me and my customers and friends are going to be f*cked out of upgrade money again. But hey, as long as some people can be happy about it then it's all good

Anyway, I'm going to have a smoke - might get rid of the stress lol
