Zalman's CNPS10X Optima CPU Cooler Goes up for Pre-order

Announced earlier this month, Zalman's CNPS10X Optima CPU cooler has started to pop up in store listings as a pre-order item. Set for a January arrival, this new tower cooler makes use of Direct Touch Heatpipe (DTH) technology and comes with support for Intel LGA 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 775 and AMD AMD Socket FM1 / AM3+ / AM3 / AM2+ / AM2 processors.

Zalman's creation measures 132 (L) x 85 (W) x 152 (H) mm, it weights 630 grams, and has four copper heatpipes, aluminum fins, and one 120 mm FSB (Fluid Shield Bearing) fan which features Shark Fin blades (for increased airflow and lower noise & vibration) and operates at 1,000 to 1,700 RPM (sound output is 17 to 28 dBA).

The CNPS10X Optima is bundled with a pinch of ZM-STG2M thermal grease and can be found priced as low as 22.76 Euro.

that would never work. heatpipes are there for a reason and thats to move heat away from the CPU and into the fins that are being blown across by the fan.

swapping the heatpipes with water tubing would mean that the heat isnt carried onto the fins and would need its own motor to pump the water around the cooler to remove heat, and at the same time that wouldnt work either as it has no where to remove the heat from the water when the look gets hot which then equals to cooling solutions like the Corsair H50/80/100 & Antec 620/920 and other similar coolers from other vendors (that are all coincidently made by Asetek)

So.... no, no & no. it would never work because its already been done in the form of a closed watercooling loop/unit

Tbh I don't think there are many more combinations of fins and heatpipes that they can come up with, I guess air coolers are pretty much going to stay the same design. They may get smaller though as cpu power requirements go down with die shrinks.

Absolutely, but it's not cost effective for retail markets. Would you pay $150 more for a 5deg difference? Those who have 100s to drop on a cooling solution run a loop.

you mean their flower coolers?

I think theres another brand out there that uses the same design but the fins on the cooler are a lot more thicker. cant remember who it was made by though but the fins are blue...

It was the TT 'Max Orb' (they did make a version with blue fins)

at this juncture, i think that air cooling is the best its ever going to get without going watercooling unless someone designs something better at removing heat then the traditional heatpipe/vapour chamber cooling system which seems to be the foundation of most coolers these days
