Seagate Takes Three Years To Realize It's Using The Wrong Branding!

Five years ago, almost to the day, Seagate issued a press release stating that it had bought EVault Inc for $185 million. This allowed Seagate to provide an online cloud-based backup service. It then renamed it to i365 in September 2008, to reflect its all-year-round availability. However, it has now made a screeching U-turn and renamed the service back to EVault. Why? Apparently, because i365 has no product recognition, but EVault has plenty. One wonders what took them so long to figure this out? You can currently see a marketing graphic about this on the EVault homepage. We have taken a snapshot of it below, to preserve it.

I remember some of clients used eVault, they were happy with the services. Thats how I heard about the eVault. I dont recall anyone using the i365 though. :rockout:

I havent heard of either of those services

I prefer to use iTwin to access my content without the need to ever upload to a cloud storage service

I'm no marketing expert but i365 suggesting year round service doesn't mean anything for storage.

My hard drives work, all year.

The internet works, all year.

So, isn't it more of an assumption that the storage service you buy through the internet will be available all year? The i365 name is therefor redundant and a wasted opportunity. "EVault" is suggestive of electronic, storage and security. Better.

Typical Seagate. I was once avid supporter of the brand. Owned plenty of SCSI Cheetah 10K drives. Marvelous. But now they are just a bunch of misfits. And now when they incorporated Samsung, that is double bad. No more cheap and reliable drives for home users.

For many years in WD(Black/RE)-Hitachi camp. Very good drives. Have few RAID arrays, not a single Black/RE or Hitachi ever failed (so far... anyway).

With external USB or eSATA HDD docking stations, why have an internet cloud to backup anything across the web anyways?
