Seven months after its Computex unveiling, Thermaltake's Frio Extreme CPU cooler has now finally been introduced and is preparing to make its retail debut later this month. The Frio Extreme has a maximum cooling capacity of 250W and supports Intel LGA 775, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011 and AMD Socket AM2(+), AM3(+) and FM1 processors.

Thermaltake's cooler measures 148.2 (L) x 151 (W) x 160 (H) mm and features a dual-tower design, 0.4 mm aluminum fins, a mirror-finish copper base, six 6 mm-U-shape copper heatpipes, and two 140 mm PWM fans operating at 1200 to 1800 RPM (their maximum sound output is 39 dBA).

The Frio Extreme comes bundled with thermal grease and a VR and PWM function fan controller. No word on pricing though.

Looks like it will be a squeeze in some systems. Also, high-end cpu coolers shouldn't limit ram coolers.

TTK did the same with the Frio OCK, it blocks ram slots and coolers. they should work on better designs.:shadedshu

Fixed, I dont think there is a need for such massive blocks of heatsinks anymore, since that Intel's offerings are getting really cool. AMD's offerings should be getting there to, if they don't want to fade to obscurity.

I dont think theres a need to do 'better' designs with what is currently out there. Its as effective as it is. Sure they can make things interesting like making it in an 'L' form or make it 'X', brand it as 'Ultra gamer killer assassin' (insert interesting prefix targetted for 12 year olds here) make it color black or something. In the end it would be like +/- .002% difference in temps from other vanilla heatpipe based tower coolers.. with difference becoming negligible due to mounting, ambient etc.

Then youd see some guy posting on a thread how awesome his new cooler is claiming to have shaved off 10 degrees from his last cooler (minus 5 degree because people like to boost things just to justify the purchase).. like yeah, when was the last time you cleaned dust from the previous tower or replaced the tim

I just wonder how something like this would compare to say, corsairs H100 water cooler.

They also have made all in one coolers, there is one that seems to share many parts with the H100, probably because they use the same retailer for parts. Asetek, right?

Finally a decent Thermaltake cooler to come along!

Better watch the price point though - make it a little cheaper than the 2 current kings ( Noctua NH-D14 and Phanteks PH-TC14PE) and it should do just fine :)

I wish someone would bundle 38mm thick fan for the middle with one of these coolers .
