The VideoLAN team has this weekend released the 2.0.0 version (codename Twoflower) of their VLC open source media player. This build includes a heap of updates including reworked Mac and Web interfaces, a new rendering pipeline for video, multi-threaded decoding for H.264, MPEG-4/Xvid and WebM, new filters, support for 10 bits codecs and two new languages (Telugu and Kurmanji), subtitles improvements, (experimental) support for Blu-ray discs, and hundreds of bug fixes.

VLC 2.0.0 is available here for Windows and Mac OS X (or just OS X).

Same here, I'm using Media Player Classic now, everything's smooth.

Don't think I've ever had a version of VLC actually work right. Always some issue or bug which makes me either use something else, or encode the video into a more common format.

VLC reminds me of a mac. progress is always slow, but it looks good and its simple to set up, so people love it.

that said, i've noticed the last versions were damned good for blu ray playback (once you removed encryption), so this might be even better. i use it as a portable player for testing other machines for codec issues.

I will try this on my Zacate based ZBox but I'll likely stick with MPC-HC/ffdshow.

DXVA is a must on that for 1080p, MPC/ffdshow plays without issue where even CCCP fails and ive tried just about every alternative including VLC multiple times.

since WMP is already on your system, isn't it with CCCP better to use?

Hmm, I should try VLC again soon, have been using MPC-HC for over a year now. Maybe because MPC-HC is so good that I just forgot there are others out there.

Great, VLC is the best when it comes to its ability to play any content, but the looks are not that great in my opion. I would like to see a more Aero like interface and auto hiding fame and buttons that only come into view when needed.

*Rips eyes out* Don't say that about VLC! It can do (play) multiple things unlike a mac that can only do one, the apple way.

i guess you've not ran into its many compatibility problems then? i dont know about 2.0, but i know the older versions had a lot of horrible bugs. for example. SPDIF output to a digital receiver was broken for years, because the devs didnt care since they only used analogue audio.

For a while I used mainly mpc-hc since my old comp's processor couldnt handle hd media, my i7 can tho so have been switching between the two. Tend to prefer vlc since it an equilizer for audio

I guess im lucky then in the fact that ive never had a problem with VLC.

Not in relation to that reply but why do so many people prefer Media Player Classic? Any reason why i might switch?

I prefer MPC purely because the quality seems about the same to myself, as well as the fast that I find VLC's entire UI far more clunky and for some reason whenever I pause or play on any computer with VLC there's a delay that very much so annoys me. Elsewise it is a perfectly fine player, if it wasn't for the fact that I prefer MPCs UI and such I'd probably use VLC.

MPC-HC with good codecs (CCCP) has the lowest CPU usage, smoother playback, and a nice clean interface.

things like click to pause are sorely missing in VLC.

If I could get click to pause, and then not have it pause two frames later as it has in every version of VLC I've tried, then I would probably use it, granted I hate the playlist VLC has. Just feels off for me, but it is easily one of the best players out there.

I have to agree with the notion of the interface in vlc being strange to me tho that may be because I spent a lot of time with media player classic wasn't classic.

All versions and even v.2 rc1 had glitches and lags. So I'm unsure whether I install vlc2 or not.
