Intel Haswell and Lynx Point Chipset Arrive in March 2013: Report

Even as its 22 nm "Ivy Bridge" Core processors and compatible 7-series "Panther Point" chipset are only taking shape, with chains of product-launches starting late-March, extending through June; there's little denying that Intel has the successor to this platform ready, and a DigiTimes report pins its launch as early as March 2013. These upcoming product lines include a new processor architecture "Haswell", and compatible "Lynx Point" chipset. We knew Haswell's March-June 2013 launch schedule from a slightly older report that cited a leaked road-map slide. This latest DigiTimes report cites sources from upstream component suppliers. Haswell processor platform will introduce a new socket, LGA1150, which is not compatible with current LGA1155 platforms.

all ready stop the production on the 1156 socket, so we have maximum one year of life for 1155

Actually it's two years (+ whatever delays there are between two product cycles - it's never 12 months cycle to cycle). Still very annoying, but at least not quite as bad as AMD's FM1 which indeed has only 1 year lifespan planned for it.

I know its annoying to have a new socket every Gen. but it is nice because they are not held back by socket limitations. And its not like people really have to get a new CPU every Gen.
They are thinking about the bigger picture, not gamers.

Verry good question....itching to pull the trigger on this guy but ivory weights heavyily.....ivys benches andlife span will be the deciding factors.

I am seriously considering IB.. though this news probably wont change my mind, it is somewhat deflating, to see that Haswell is expected within 1 year..

sometimes being an Intel user 'is' frustrating.... <sigh> cant complain, something new every year might not be good for me but is good for someone upgrading next year..

The news here just made me forget about any possible upgrade plans. No point if the socket only lives for another year and a half or something.

that's because 423 was a moronic socket, cpu sockets within cpu sockets years before inception ever came out. 478 was a much better socket design.

This though is perhaps why its best to either 1. pick a decent setup that will last you several years and give you time to build funds to upgrade or 2. buy a cheap midrange cpu/mobo each time.

this has always been the case with intel, im not sure why anyones suprised by the 1155 socket being replaced but it wont deter me from upgrading to ib coz if u wait for haswell in march 2013 (if its on time) itll only have a cpu socket lifespan of 15 months as per usual. if you need to upgrade and the performance suits what u want to do, then upgrade. If you can wait, then wait. same old story guys.

This should help people decide on their upgrades, it's never wise to wait for tech to roll in unless it's in reasonable terms aka kepler out within a month or two or something like that. All current hardware is good as all current games we play are obsolete tech-wise.

They are just following their tick-tock cadence and delivering in time.

I would say to who is complaining about socket change: be glad that the shrink (tick) is on the same socket as the tock, they could well change socket everytime.

Not too surprising. But I'm sure my i7-2600K@4.4ghz will last me a couple more sockets before needing to upgrade.

Pretty much what I'm thinking too. I mean sure we're going to get those "Should I buy an i7 now or wait for Haswell?" posts to prop up all over the internet.

By all means, those folks could wait 10 more years for Intel to release their CPU that will blow Sandy Bridge out of the water!!!
