AMD FX-8120 with Liquid Cooling Bundle Up For Pre-Order

AMD plans to sell bundles of its FX-8120 eight-core processors in the AM3+ package, along with AMD FX-branded self-contained liquid-cooling kits. The SKU is up for pre-order on Amazon, for US $383.5 (incl. shipping). The part-number for this chip+liquid-cooling bundle is "FD8120FRGUWOX". The liquid cooler is originally made by Asetek, combined with the unlocked base clock multiplier of the FX-8120, it facilitates high overclocking. The cooler is not just a dumb closed-loop, but also packs sensors that connect to the system over USB (internal USB 2.0 header), that let you monitor it via Chill Control software.

Wow thats terribly overpriced. People could just buy it for $199 and get an H60 for $59.

I already have this cooler, and recently got an FX-8150.

They make a good combo, but yes, this price is a bitter pill, although the cooler is worth 25% of that cost based on how other similar coolers are priced.

I'm actually quite glad to finally see these are going to be more widely available.

I'm not very confident in that. I think this cooler wil lahve slightly more headroom, but will be far noisier. I ahd a D14, which usually rates better than the Venomous-X, and this AMD cooler does a better job than the D14 for sure. this cooler is far better than an H70, thanks to the mangement software taht controls the fans based on coolant temp, and the high-airflow fans(probably around 100CFM or so).

I have the H50 as well, you could not be more wrong. The AMD cooler is more like an H70 with higher airflow fans. You're right that the H50 isn't that great, but it's not that bad either. Considering price.

I have H50, H70, H100, and the AMD cooler all right now, and have used them all pretty extensively.

should of just gotten a xspc rasa kit way better cooling and expandability. with all the money you spent on those asetek coolers.

I had the rasa kit as well. It's a decent kit for a decent price, but I didn't like the included pump.


I also almost have the complete ApogeeHD kit too.


WIth 4 PCs used for review testing, I have many many coolers. It's not really about how much they cost, for me. It's about finding the right cooler for the right application, as overclocking to the maximum is not exactly something I am too terribly concerned about.


Having played with FX chips, and spoken to others that have them, the minor difference between cooler in this price range isn't even going to get you more when overclocking, anyway.

the one major difference from these coolers and a self-built loop is that most users will use distilled water, where most of these sealed units use glycol, which has slightly differnt thermal and conductivity properties.


Anyway, I'm not in the position to choose jsut one cooler, so I use many. No big deal to spend the money i did on those coolers.

He is a reviewer and get all kinds of things. Yes a rasa kit is good but you cannot compare a semi custom loop to a closed loop compact design.

I did that for my abs 595 build with the ex rad raystorm xspc 1650rpm fans and gt.
did stock ide and load for each fan.
then oced and repeated the process for both fans

Without this cooler they are about €210, with it €320. Still a bit too much imo, even if the cooler is good.

Average that I've got from other people is about 4.6 GHz on this cooler. As I understand it, this cooler, before was only available in Japan, and sent to the reviewers that covered teh FX-8150 on launch. I got mine from one of those reviewers.

I understand that but it is something to think about. they come out with these coolers so people who want to overclock can.

Intel and AMD both have the same coolers. What is this? Is this a start to the new way of cooling? Instead of a HSF they will now start to pack these in there place? Now that would be cool!

Custom water cooling will always come out on top but these type of coolers are for people like me that would like to have water and good temps but not have the pressures of maintaining a full loop. I ran my I7 920 under water for a year and it was more trouble than it was worth.

standard maintenance is 6 months to 1 yr max. you could go longer to if wanted to but that is the general rule.

been water cooling since 2009, I have not had any issues at all. Did 4-5 wc builds since then

Yea I did like the temps but I think I will stick to air or keep my eye on how the closed loop technology is coming along.

I had a friend test a modded H50/50W inline pelter and cooling down in the lower 20's on idle and full load with 4GHz 1.4V P55 was like 48-50 deg. This was quite well and absolutly NO condensation.
