Next week Xigmatek is set to roll out (in Europe) a tweaked version of its Dark Knight CPU Cooler, the Dark Knight SD1283 Night Hawk Edition. Pictured below, the Night Hawk measures 120 (W) x 50 (D) x 159 (H) mm, and features H.D.T (Heat-pipe Direct Touch) technology (with three 8 mm copper heatpipes), a ceramic coating for 'ultimate heat dispensing', and a 120 mm Long Life Bearing fan operating at 1000 to 2200 RPM (30.1 dBA maximum sound output).

The Dark Knight SD1283 Night Hawk Edition supports Intel LGA 2011/1366/1156/1155/775 and AMD FM1/AM3/AM2+/AM2 processors, and is priced at 39.90 Euro.

I'm sure it conducts heat well, but it would of been nice to see a solid copper/nickel base to the cooler :S Just the look of it worries me :p

I wonder how it does against a CM hyper 212 Evo.
And if it will ever become available in the USA.

The matte black colour looks stunning imo. Performance should still be pretty good though.

This is a black powder coated Xigmatek Gaia not really a new Dark Knight so performance should match what the Gaia can do.... with dual fans and 8mm heat pipes the performance will be similar to the CM 212 but the newer Xig's have a better mounting system than the CM 212 IMO.

I was planning on getting a Gaia or hunting down an old Dark Knight for one of my rigs and with this new model I get a little of both :toast:

ceramic coating for 'ultimate heat dispensing'

Um... :slap: FAIL

"The high temperature coating process can also increase the durability and provide thermal insulation"
Taken from a "ceramic coating companies webpage"

http://www.competitiveedgecoatings.com/pages/ceramic_coating.php

I would like to know what engineer decided this was a good idea and possibly if I am magically wrong somehow to enlighten me on the facts..

It's commonly used on exhaust systems to keep heat INSIDE, that's right, lock the heat inside, because a hot exhaust system flows faster.

I don't see this being a terrible flaw in design, makes for a cool looking and very durable heatsink, but to help with heat dissipation, me thinks not...

Bare copper my friends, bare copper :toast:

I agree bare copper works best and the statements on the coating is mostly marketing babble but performance shouldn't suffer by any major degree in this application. It will make the heatsink tarnish proof though and looks pretty damn nice

Agreed it probably wont hurt it's performance much, but when marketing it in such a way that makes it sound beneficial to the efficiency of the heatsink...

That's pretty dirty, how many people understand that it will indeed hinder it's performance, not very many.

I'll end my rant, but let the people here know, I'm looking out for your best interests! :toast:

It does look pretty slick I wont lie.

Still reusing 1283? One of the best bang for buck cooler for a very long time, along with 212+. Probably still is, but its getting harder to find them.

The Gaia is a 1283 adapted for push/pull fans- $30 in most places

No, is not powder coat.
Is a special type of ceramic coating for heat dispense(thermal conductive coating) same theory as the stealth coating on the infamouse night hawk fighter. I will dig up more info on this coating.
the original gaia beat 212+ or evo by like 5 degree at least, this one will rape them.

Confirmed, webpage will be up for the material soon.
is a material from aerospace industry, not powder coating, not marketing blubble.
well xigmatek have good products and they never do a lot on marketing, don't overestimate
their marketing department =)

I did some research after your last post and yes these materials are available and they do have valid science behind them (irregular surface area/increase cooling area, thermal boundary physics, black body radiation, etc...) I'll hold off judgment on the effectiveness of such things on this application until the reviews come out....

Still looks awesome though :)
