Vista gives PC Sales a Nice Boost

Windows Vista was officially released to the public on 30th January this year, and the "wow" effect seems to be working so far. During its first week, Vista contributed to a 73% jump in US PC sales compared to the previous week, and sales were up 67% compared to the same time last year. Home Premium accounted for 59% of desktop sales and 76% of notebook sales, whilst home basic made up 33% and 16% respectively, suggesting users prefer the more expensive version. The figures were collected from five of the major retailers, Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Staples and Radio Shack.

Guh it's driving me nuts, I should tell them ALL NO! You need a new system I'll
build you this for $xxxx and take the old "USELESS" parts in on trade... Lucky I'm
a nice guy and wont do that to me clueless customers.

the sales is down to the "vista certified" bit , shops in the uk are selling any under powered system with vista but to be honest if i were going to buy a full new system right now id expect it to come with vista although i wouldn't use it.

Honestly, why build an operating system that will run on OLD junk. You shouldn't be running a brand new OS on <1Ghz computers. And honestly, 512 is pretty small these days. However, that IS a messup...it should run stripped down and run 512 with music and an internet tab open comfortably.

If there has been an UP in computer sales... it's not due to Vista, but due to Intel Core 2 Duo etc. And Vista just happens to come with new PCs.

New PCs have been shipping with a "free" Vista upgrade for about 3 months at least, but I guess most folks who buy ready built PCs from the High Street or places like Dell wouldn't be confident of upgrading their OS
