Just a couple of good viruses and hack here and there... away from a face plant!

http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/...ter-virus-indicates-mac-users-no-longer-safe/

When you’re on the top of the pile you become the main target. While those inventing such attacks have woke up to the fact more Apple buyers/user have money and use their devices to make purchases and do banking from. They gravitate to those with the most money, and the perhaps now most naïve. Apple has always said to be safer, but may be not any longer. The wolves see blood.

All to often I see people harping on Apple, and those who use their products. IF you've never delved into OS X, used any of the brilliant software out there for the platform, you have no room to talk.

There's so many people that hate on Apple just because it's cool to do. Or they site "sweatshop work," or "one button mouse."

The truth is, 90% of the tech you use today is a direct result of Apple. Apple's software is lightyears ahead of anything on Linux and is quite often much better than it's Windows alternatives.

I don't agree with everything the company does, nor do I like all of their products (Heh, I don't even own any Apple products), but to bash teh company and its users with blind hate makes you more of a sheep than anyone.

I don't hate Apple, I just see their products as being overhyped and overpriced. Not to mention the "90% of tech is a direct result of Apple?" But wait... Apple for the most part has been smaller, and used other's technologies and just marketed them better. Now, if that were "90% of the tech you see in people's hands is an indirect result of Apple's marketing campaigns starting with the iPod." I would agree wholeheartedly. They just took an MP3 player, and marketed it for an aproximate number of songs it would carry rather than the amount of storage capacity.
While Blackberry had a smartphone out before the iPhone, and touchscreen phones had been out for a while, Apple gave it a sleeker design and a platform-central market.
Tablets have been out for years but Apple made one, put "i" before it, threw a marketing spin on it, and now most people are calling even non-Apple tablets iPads.

As far as using Apple products, I grew up with Macs, but I've always prefered windows as I can do more with it, and I personally do did dislike the single button mouse growing up. I used nothing at school (we started comptuer classes in 3rd grade.) but Macs until I got to programming classes in Highschool. Always built windows at home though.

Software-wise, part of it is that Apple refuses to release evolving software and they want a single, finished, no customer feedback solution, or if there is a need for an updated version they once again charge you for it rather than just sending you a free update.
Personally, I prefer perpetual-beta solutions than a stock solution which doesn't change over time. But that's IMO.

In the end, Apple has marketing and the fact that it's platforms really don't change much in it's favor. Windows has a lot of customization to it on the desktop end, and Android is quite a bit more open on the mobile end.

The hardware Apple has used for the most part until recently on the mobile end has been Samsung hardware, on the desktop end they've gone Intel CPUs of course.

And I still want to know who in their right mind makes a portable device out of glass?... given how many times I see people drop their phones, including myself... oh wait they want to make you pay for replacements. Nevermind hardware longevity.

That said, those who bash Apple without a clue of what's going on, or just to be "cool" is somewhat juvenile, however I doubt it's a stretch to say Apple products are overhyped, are far overprice for the hardware, and that it's software is functional but limited and lacks customization options. And that closed systems are bad for consumers when it comes to $$$/what you get.

My comments weren't directed specifically at either of you, just to make it clear.

My distaste for people who hate Apple comes from the plethora of people who constantly bash Apple and its users, without a single clue as to what they're talking about. Apple has contributed more to the Personal Computer than any other single company has.

Apple's list of tech they've influenced:
PC (duh) including laptops.
Printers (in the 80's and 90's)
Scanners (in the 80's and 90's)
The Mouse and GUI (and btw, they didn't steal it from Xerox, they paid for it with stock, just an FYI).
I/O interfaces such as SCSI, USB, Firwire
Portable Devices like palm pilots (Apple Newton)
Portable Media Players (weren't the first, but they innovated the idea and made MP3 players a common appliance.)
Smart Phones (again, they weren't the first, but they innovated and thus they became commonplace)
Tablets (same as above.)
Among many others.

The real beauty behind Apple's products isn't necessarily the hardware, but the UI. Their UI has always been absolutely way beyond what others have had to offer. Not every person in the world is computer literate or even comfortable using computers, so making a device that "Just Works" is far smarter than a device that takes a lot of knowledge to use.

People forget that we, as enthusiasts, are a tiny, tiny, tiny little segment of the populace. I would say we're not even niche.

As for Software, there isn't anything else out there like iLife that integrates so seamlessly and prefectly. Final Cut Pro is fun to work in (or, at least it was prior to them changing the entire UI, but I haven't used it in a few years).

I just think people should give credit where credit is due.

Anyway. /Rant

Man, the amount of hatred and hypocrisy on this forum is getting ridiculous. I bet that more than half of the ones bashing Apple here have at least 1 of their products in their house. Personally I own an iPod nano 1st gen and that is it. At least I am open minded not a fanbuoy (fangarl) as some of the persons here....:shadedshu

P.S.

Is kinda funny to see persons fighting over which OS is better, iOS or Android, when in the end both are mainly based on the same Unix core, hehe!

I had an iPod nano 1st gen years ago before I lost it, also years ago. My HTC/Google Nexus One is my MP3 player these days. lol.

But nah, if they weren't so marketibg-centered and made more durable products and didn't push for such high profit margins over operating and hardware costs, and had a more open system so I wasn't limited to Apple, then I would have no problem buying a thing or two from them.

Yet again, +1!!!

EDIT: I rethought what I wrote here yesterday. My post was full of hatred, and was against my own self-set guidelines. I am sorry. I hope hatred won't blind me like this ever again.
