Soon after launching GeForce GTX 680 JetStream, Palit is working on its variant with double the amount of memory, at 4 GB. The GTX 680 JetStream 4 GB joins Gainward's GTX 680 Phantom 4 GB and Galaxy GTX 680 4 GB, at being some of the first cards with double the memory amount, which could just come handy with triple-monitor 3D Vision Surround setups.

Unlike the 2 GB GTX 680 JetStream, which has 1150 MHz (core boost) and 6.30 GHz (memory), the 4 GB variant sticks to NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 1056 MHz (core boost) and 6.00 GHz (memory). Like the 2 GB variant, the new card will use 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe power connectors to draw power. We can see from pictures that the PCB is a slight variation of NVIDIA's reference design, besides the GDDR5 memory chips on the reverse side of the PCB, which are not cooled by any back-plate. Its launch could be very soon.

Memory on the back side? good, now supply it with a nice sexy backplate :( !

i think EVGA will properly do that, if they don't make a custom pcb with all off them hidden under the heatsink itself.

What's the problem of memory on the backside of the card? My GPUs have some memory chips behind and there is no problem at all, they don't produce that much heat.

Yay! More pic's  What a flop card, dbl stack connector should have no place on this board and no backplate, like wtf? Is there a shortage of those as well?

2gb cooled and other 2gb not cooled....

my compliments to the engineers

True but its nothing a few stick on heatsinks wont fix and they would probably cool them better than a back plate.

but For that much money yes it should have one IMO.

front does look e-sexy :pimp:

we r saying 2012 and ino memory doesn't need directly cooling when it comes to gfx even when u oc them, but still i prepare that myself.

so if it was me buying a 4gig card i would mount some ram sinks on them anyway.

GDDR5 does not need to be cooled under standard conditions but when you OC you might need the extra cooling, they didn't put them under the heatsink because with their design of the mem controller the memory needs to be linked and to do that it has to be on the back, 8 on front and back. more than 2GB of memory on 256bit bus and you will almost definitely see memory on the back.

would be nice to see a backplate of decent quality though.

Because having less than a full-width vent on the backplate is important when you're not using a blower-style cooler.

Why, will it actually help?

By now everyone in the enthusiast community surely knows that double memory cards by budget brands use slow cheap non-overclockable memory modules and low binned GPUs to make a premium card to sell to idiots who buy graphics cards on RAM amount because the rest of the specs and performance charts make their brains hurt.

Don't do it.
