Shacknews is reporting BioShock Infinite has been delayed. BioShock Infinite is going through some "tweaks and improvements," according to Irrational's Ken Levine, forcing the company's upcoming shooter into a Q1 2013 release. Oh, and don't plan on reading about it from E3 or GamesCom, either. In a note to fans on the Irrational site, Levine said the size and scope of the game forced them to delay the game until Feb. 26 of next year: "We had a similar experience with the original BioShock, which was delayed several months as our original ship date drew near.

Why? Because the Big Daddies weren't the Big Daddies you've since come to know and love. Because Andrew Ryan's golf club didn't have exactly the right swing. Because Rapture needed one more coat of grimy Art Deco." Levine said they plan to use the time they would normally be preparing for upcoming conventions to refine the game so the next time it is shown, it will be "essentially the product we intend to put in the box." We already knew that Irrational was staying focused on the main game and trying to avoid distractions, but if delaying it a few months will make it play like the originals, then the added wait will be forgotten quickly.

On one side i'm a bit disappointed, but on the another, i'm glad they won't be rushing things. I'm just playing Bioshock 2 (because i was unable to in the past due to some very strange bug which prevented me from stuffing little sisters into the vents). But now that i solved that, the game is just fantastic. Awesome upgrades, new foes, very cool environments, one of the best games i've played in years really (along with BioShock 1, Deus Ex and System Shock 2 which are my all time favorites).

What i'll miss the most in Infinite is the lack of water above your head. That gave Bioshock some unique feel and the use of water shaders and effects was really impressive. All the windows with the ocean in the view, all the floods and leakages etc. But then again, floating city in the air will have charm of its own as well.

If they don't fuck it up like they did with Deus Ex 2 it's a No.1 game on my to-buy list. Whenever it may get released...

I never finished the first one.

You don't know what you're missing. Unless you're not into the RPG FPS games. In that case no argument will help you think otherwise. But for me, ever since i played the demo of System Shock 2 back in 1999, this is my favorite genre. I just love the immersion of being in first person and manipulate the world to such massive extent.

In Serious Sam you just gun down stuff. It was fun. But nothing beats the combinations of things. Like hacking security systems to fight for you, setting foes on fire so they run for the water and when they jump into it, you electrocute them with electro plasmid. Or you can throw barrels and gas pressure tanks with telekinesis. Or you trick other enemies into fighting eachother with hypnosis plasmids. And stack up tonics that improve your abilities like cheaper stuff on vending machines, higher damage resistance, faster hacking, self defense auto plasmids when you get hit by melee attacks etc. It's so fun making cool combos and simply change the way how you engage in combat. Serious Sam will always be exactly the same. In BioShock you can play Serious Sam style or almost thief or silent assassin one. You can choose a direct approach or you play it clever with hacked security systems and hypnotized enemies taht fight for you.

But again, you'll only love it if you like fiddling with game mechanics and gameplay style. I personally love it above everything. Some just don't like it.

The whole little girl thing I didn't like. I'm a dad. Even seeing digital children get hurt bothers me. The game seemed awesome. Just didn't like the kid thing.

Well, they don't get hurt actually. If you don't harvest them, you're actually rescuing them. Only ones getting hurt are big daddies who you have to gun down and who protect these little girls. I also always rescued them. I'm a kind person, besides, they gave you extra ADAM as a "thanks" gift for saving them later. So you just had to postpone the plasmids usage a bit but then you could upgrade faster right away.

You have two options. Hurt them and get twice the loot or let them go and get half.

The latter secretly rewards you in the end, so it's actually advisable.

I tried getting through the game without getting even one little sister killed, and I gave up in a segment near the end where you have about a dozen.

Exactly.. I would so much, rather wait, for a finished product. Bioshock 2, had quite a few issues, at release. Was a great game, but polish sells. Bad reviews can kill a game and bugs definitely will.

well 2012 is not so great for games titles...

I guess everyone is waiting, for the end of the world..lol

I sure hope it's a new engine. If not.. Well that's a big ole, capital, F.A.I.L. No way, they can get away with using, that engine again.. It was outdated on BS2.

I think Ken Levine needs to put down the bong and pick up the keyboard... At least that's what I gather after watching a couple of his interviews.

This coming from you makes me think Ken Levine is more burnt then Tommy Chong.

Fail? Why exactly? Bioshock 2 looks great even today. And water shader is one of the better ones i've ever seen. If you think about lack of anti-aliasing, there was a driver support for FSAA in Bioshock 1 and for BioShock 2 i already had MLAA available. No jaggies.
With a small fix you could also solve the locked framerate physics which were fixed by defualt in BS2.

Games don't always have to go for realism. Ever played Psychonauts? That game is one of the best games ever made yet is completely cartoonish. It doesn't mater, realistic or fantasy it's all about the execution. And I'm an avid fan of realism in games!
