At the AMD Fusion Developer Summit (AFDS) 2012, the host unveiled its next flagship professional graphics card, the FirePro W9000. What makes the card particularly interesting is that it is dual-GPU, packing two Tahiti-derived GPUs, the same chips that go into making Radeon HD 7900 series. The FirePro W9000, is what many believe to be a professional variant of the Radeon HD 7990 "New Zealand" dual-GPU graphics card, which is facing delays for reasons unknown (actually, here's a possible reason).

The W9000 packs a total of 6 GB of GDDR5 memory, up to 264.8 million pixels/s; 4 TFLOPs single-precision and 1 TFLOPs double-precision floating-point performance. The card design does away with lateral-flow cooler, and uses a triple-fan heatsink assembly that packs three 90 mm low-speed (low-noise) fans. A surprise here, is that the card draws power from [just] two 8-pin PCIe power connectors (it's probably using two low-voltage Tahiti chips). It's an established fact that FirePro products are merely variations of Radeon products with possibly higher build quality, and an expanded software feature-set.

...which is true for the nVidia Quadro Series, too. 8)

BTW: Is it FirePro W9000 or V9000? You used both terms in the post...

Double V?... I guess it stands for dual GPU.
Oh, and the screen in the link shows a slide with W9000.

That's not the throughput of a Dual-Tahiti GPU, that is the throughput of a single Tahiti GPU running at ~1Ghz or more (Tahiti at 925MHz gets about 3.8 TFLOPs single-precision). The card being held up there is clearly not the W9000 if those are the correct numbers. I think the speculation that he's actually holding a 7990 is probably correct.

Is it possible that the 4TFlop figure is referring to the processing power of each GPU, not both combined?

Looks like some very early proto. Don't be surprised if that cooler changes to single radial fan cooler, pcb is black and the memory on backside is cooled with backplate.

I guess you missed that big GPU that takes up 2/3 of the image that doesn't look like the one in the guy's hands? There's no way AMD is releasing a top-of-the-line professional GPU with HALF the possible performance capable from two GPUs. If you don't realize that, there's not much else I can say.

I guess you missed the part where the floating point performance numbers are clearly labeled for "W9000", and the part where "W9000" is labeled on that card?

I'm not sure if you're intentionally trying to be this dense or if it just comes naturally, but WOW!

Let me spell it out for you.

Card shown in the slide: W9000
Specs given in the slide: W9000, also clearly not the specs of a dual-GPU card
Card in MP's hands: dual-GPU, NOT W9000

The fans on the dual gpu card clearly have FirePro labelled on them. The slide may well be a an early pictorial image of the card, not necessarily the final design variant.

I wouldn't take slides as gospel of a finished design and likewise, I wouldn't call folk dense because you are having a disagreement with them.

The card in the slide is an image and means nothing. The card in the guys hands is clearly a dual gpu and a FirePro card. It could easily be the W9000
