In a horror/suspense FPS game with more than half of it completely unlit, saying you don't HAVE to use the flashlight is akin to saying you don't HAVE to use the gun.

Muzzle flash should be enough light for anybody to see.. If it's not then you're not shooting fast enough.. lol  After all it is an iD game.. light'em up!

Definitely going to buy. I had a... version of Doom 3 back in the day I was a poor student with a computer barely good enough to run it.

I don't know how anyone can call this a lame ass game. Please, it's a classic.

Why? Other than it's lame. Lame doesn't tell me much.

At release i remember this game being the pinnacle for graphics for most people. I don't remember a lot of story from the game, but I loved the intensity.

I got a 65" Panasonic and a killer HT, so I will be getting this on my X-box for the single player. I mean I doubt any one will play the MP portion of Doom 3 lol. And in a few months get it all for 5 bucks on steam lol.

I absolutely HATE games with proximity spawning and poor AI...

AI is NOT waiting in a dark corner until the player hits the spawning tripwire, then monster jumps out and waves arms, and then players shoots. It is "exciting" for 3 minutes, then dull.

The plot of Doom 3 was: Corridor, spawn, shoot, dark corridor, flashlight, spawn, gun, shoot, corridor, spawn, shoot, corridor, spawn, shoot, dark corridor, flashlight, spawn, gun, shoot. Rinse and repeat. Yawn with or without gun-flashlight.

+++++++++++++++++++++

I'd love to see remakes of some "classics" in new engines. Just as HL, HL2 and DoD were improved with updated source engine and HDR, so would equally love (and would pay dollar) for those early ground-breakers with updated engines such as: COD, MoH, NFS:pU, SoF2, IGN2, NOLF2 etc.

Its not a patch. Its a whole new game.

Isn't that EA's mottot.

BF2 ...BF2141 was just a patch or mod IMO...

ID and can shove this fair up there .....
Rage sucked big time. And carmack is a sell out...

Although Doom 1 wolfeistein and alot of other classics on a decent 3d engine would be epic.
Hell still play Dungoen keeper 1 and 2. Because they are Epic amounts of fun comparied to the steaming piles of crap they call games today.

So this is just DLC?

typical what ever happend to mods? Free Fan made DLC most mods are behing some of the biggest games today.

I own Doom 3, I bought it on launch day, and this really pisses me off. This is exactly why I pirate games. Shitty, greedy, lazy developers.

When Doom 3 came out the biggest complaint that most that bought it had was that you couldn't hold the flashlight and fire the gun at the same time. It was so bad that people actually made mods to the game to attach the flashlight to the guns. ID's responce was that they wanted it that way to add to the suspense of the game(or some shit like that, I don't remember the exact words). Now they re-release the game and advertise the ability to hold the flashlight and shoot at the same time as a wonderful new feature. F*(k them, I'll pirate this "new" game.

People like you ruin the whole game experience for all. You want to get stuff and never have to pay for them. No one likes doing anything for free nowdays so don't complain about greed. Pirating doesn't hurt companies, it hurts the people who buy their products. If you are complaining, how bout don't even play it.

Doom 3's graphics was cutting edge when it was released.. I thought the game was kickass! playing it with a 5.1 system made it even better. You can't compare it to today's games. The success of this will only help us get Doom 4 quicker and better. :toast:

Why would ID possibly patch the game already? Carmack already said how much he doesn't care about the PC community with RAGE, he's all about Xbox now.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Carmack ate those words in a big way. He knows as well as everybody else that PC gaming, along with graphics and sound are better than anything.
You don't use a Game Consoles to create spectacular generated graphics for Films/Movies, you use PC's.
The only purpose a developer chooses to design a game around a game console is complete laziness. By not creating games on there rightful platform (PC) they are indirectly killing the electronic gaming industry and its quality. IMO.

By utilizing what the PC has to offer with cutting edge technologies, it assures you the best possible outcome. Only then do you port it over to an age old game console, which then they too will benefit.

Anyhow I have DOOM 3 and it was great for it's time.

If game developers want me to pay for their games they shouldn't charge $60 for a partially finished game, then try to get me to shell out another $20-30 to get the rest of the content. They should charge me $30 for the full good game, those are the games I pay for.

I was excited when I first heard about this...but now I'm just as disappointed as when Doom3 FIRST came out...
In all honesty, the game never really looked that great to begin with. Games like HL2 and COD2 blew this game out of the water graphics wise. Not only that, the gameplay SUCKS. No flashlight on the guns and you just walk around in the dark listening to people talking to themselves and occasionally shoot a demon that is predictably waiting around a corner or behind a door.

I like that they are offering a flashlight on the gun and throwing in the expansion (which I never bothered with because of how horrible the base game was.) and slightly tweaking the graphics. But lets face it, it looks the same and for people who already OWN the game, its pointless. You can mod the game to run in widescreen, and have a flashlight on the guns, and to have MUCH better graphics than this "updated" version offers...ID might as well be in the same league as EA now.

Now was it a partially finished game when it released? No it wasn't. Did they give the support many people wanted? No they didn't. So why are you still complaining? That was almost 8 years ago and if they want to release it with some fixes that they never did in the first place then so be it. Updated graphics, get the expansion, and some new content is being released for a meager $30. I could understand your rage if it was like a couple of years after the game came out then yes but its 8 years later.

Edit:
Also the game wasn't even scary for that matter. I was yawning throughout most of the game and then I stopped playing, never to return

Wait.. so, is Doom 1 also made into 3D or just "included"?

IMHO, it makes more sense to remake Doom 1 and Doom 2 into 3D than Doom 3.. which was already in 3D.

I mean, they upped some shader effects and modded it slightly.. is that really worth pretty much the same price as the original when it came out..?

It's like adding the Energy Sword to the original Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC, calling it Halo: Energy Sword Edition and selling it for 40$.. lame.

And why are they doing this..? Because Rage sucked so they need the money to finance Doom 4.

Well fine.. I hope they get it. I want Doom 4.

Riddick was better. Riddick's remade is still better.

Why would you pay for a game that was never good?
