not my personal opinion on win8.. but is kind of nostalgic & funny!

can't believe XP box came with the 'start button & taskbar'!.. win8 box should have come with tiles?

IMO, the best looking OS, including the packaging was Vista

I agree Vista was pretty (windows server 2008 without aero looked awesome too).


Now when MS releases Surface I wonder will it fly. It looks sexy. I'm still unsure whether I'll buy one or not.

I'm looking very much forward to it. Gotta make sure my programs work ok with it is my only concern. So Ill buy it (Win8) but maybe not switch RIGHT AWAY. I want to buy it early so I can get the cheaper prices.

From what I have been reading its also more secure which is a big thing for me.

1) Will it play with all my hardware devices (both Vista and Win7 did this fine)
2) Will it run all the versions of Visual Studio I need to use. (this should be a nit as it's all MS stuff)

.. and most importantly

3) Will it run the game I am hooked on at the moment.

I just have a few also.

1) Will it run older Adobe products like CS 5.5
2) Will it run older Extensis Suitcase (Font Manager I need a replacement for. I hate it)
3) Will it run iTunes (hate all you want)
4) Needs to be more secure. From what I have read it is.

If it fits those Ill be good to go. Gaming is important but making money is more important.

Its confirmed to boot faster. HOWEVER its still not the full releases. We will have to wait till October to get a real review. Maybe we will see one on TPU. Who knows.

I agree. They dropped the RTM but its still being optimized. When those computers connect to the web there will be updates.

Machines Here will not run W8 till ms drops support for w7 By that time one will bre running 32 Gb of ram and final fastest AM3+ cpu.

The "box set" (aka retail) never let you install it on three machines. The Family pack let you do that, but afaik that was three licenses for the price of one. OEM's are limited to one machine. New machine (generally motherboard), new license, so if you want to stick to the EULAs and suchlike and upgrade/switch machines often retail is the way to go.

That is what I thought at first because initially after you activated it to one set of hardware it wouldn't let you activate again, however when I built my SB-E machine I used the same key I used for my Phenom II and it activated no problem. I didn't have to call Microsoft or anything. I believe that MS says that 3 pieces of hardware need to change at once to invalidate the activation or something like that. I think they generate the activation key based on physical IDs for the hardware in your machine. I replaced 3 things, motherboard, processor, and ram, anything else I added but didn't replace.
