GIGABYTE did not leave out the Sandy Bridge-E HEDT platform when designing its new Ultra Durable 5 line of motherboards, the company showed of two new socket LGA2011 parts, the X79S-UP5 WIFI, and the X79-UP4.

The X79-UP4 is designed to be a sub-$300 offering, being a notch above the X79-UD3 (and perhaps even the X79-UD5). It uses a 6+1 phase CPU VRM, which consists of high-current ferrite core chokes, and PowIRstage IR3550 driver-MOSFETs. GIGABYTE added eight DDR3 DIMM slots, four on either side of the socket, supporting up to 64 GB of quad-channel DDR3 memory. Expansion slots include four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (x16/x8/x16/x8), two PCI-Express 2.0 x1, and one legacy PCI. The X79-UP4 otherwise has a similar connectivity load-out as the X79-UD3.

The X79S-UD5 WiFi is packed to the brim with features. It uses a stronger 8-phase CPU VRM, with the same choice of components as the X79-UP4, eight DDR3 DIMM slots which can hold up to 64 GB of quad-channel DDR3 memory, four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (x16/x8/x16/x8), eight SAS 3 Gb/s ports, apart from four SATA 3 Gb/s and two SATA 6 Gb/s. An 802.11 b/g/n + Bluetooth 4.0 add-on card is included in the package. The rest of its feature-set is similar to that of the X79S-UD5.

ME too, actually. I asked Gigabyte for very specific features from this board, and pricing too, and they came through for me, big time. ;)

X79S-UP5 is a "Workstation" product, FYI.

Can you share what the price point would be :p? Im planning on moving to the x79 platform but ive been looking aroud for x79 boards with a nice price point with great features but im always dissapointed its either they lack sata 3 or usb 3 . But this board looks like it has what im looking for only thing left is the price point.

Never been a big fan of Gigabyte. Had caps pop on my "first build" S478 board. I have ALWAYS hated their "wacky" BIOS's (I would assume adoption of UEFI has made that better too)

But they just scored some big points in my book. PCI SLOTS!! I'm keeping my PCI X-Fi Fatality until it dies or the slot it goes into disappears :rockout: Still hope of keeping it going yet:cool:

Nice looking board! Too bad that platform is prohibitively expensive for majority of users right now  Guess you could say I'm just jelly hatin' on the peeps with $$$ :respect:

I don't care what anyone says about Creative; they knew how to make a gaming card

Hey Dave never mind these ATX things man! :p We'd like to see some of your iTX stuff ;)

Sure can!

Canadian side of newegg, but:

I asked for less than $400. I expected $369. I see $339. Colour me happy.:p

Gigabyte has come a long way with their BIOSes. Their UEFI is actually pretty damn good now, and I find it to be one of the more responsive UEFI BIOSes out there right now.

And yes, PCI slot, since it's a workstation product, and many workstation users have specialized PCI devices, so one slot is included.

October, most likely, for mITX. I have 5 boards sitting here waiting first, but I'm working on two reviews per week now. I have memory reviews coming as well, and kits to arrive. Depends on what arrives first.
